Pic How much Oil in the Shifter??

For the shifter reservoir area, how much oil should be in there? Should it just be in the actual cup that holds the shifter ball or should it be filled around that area as well?

i filled it all up not just the center. but only up to the level of the to lip of the circle. i used that as the level indicator. fsm says 4 - 6 cubic inches of fluid i think that but figure wasn't too helpful since i have no way of measuring that

weird i have that exact same damage on the passenger side where that lip to the opening is bent up and the paint is missing, i damaged it while dropping in the engine/tranny. by the way do you have a 95?

might be some residual left in there thats keeping it usable. its a good idea to change it out for new fluid and keep it maintained like you would for motor lubrication. just not as often. btw it takes the same oil as your tranny

use a blub or other method to suck out and dispose of the old oil, no point keeping used oil in there the lubrication will not be as good anymore and there are contaminants.

Don't forget to grease the pivot ball and lower bushing before filling with gear oil.

any particular type of grease for those? Will the white lithium work or does it need to be something that works with the tranny oil?

Also is the tranny oil the same as Automatic Trans fluid or is it different entirely?

thanks!

Any quality grease will work. And use gear oil. Most use the same as what's in the transmission.

Thanks for this thread. I had no idea oil went in there. I just checked mine and it was very low. I sucked up everything that was there and put in some redline tranny fuid. The service manual said 80 to 95 CC which after a quick search I found is the same thing as 80 to 95 ml.

I also greased the two pivot *****.

PS, The service manual says to refill the change control case after removing the clutch housing or disassembling the tranny.

Here is a screen capture of this page in the service manual. I just put the link and not the actual picture so just click below...
