Question PFS SMIC installation question

Greetings,

I have a PFS SMIC that I'd like to install, but it doesn't look like it will go together the way the instructions say it will. The duct has two pieces of aluminum angle that are meant to be bolted to the intercooler. Unfortunately, the intercooler has no such holes or provision to bolt to. Surely if you had to drill a hole in the intercooler, they would have mentioned it in the instructions.

Has anyone installed one of these? I've called PFS, but only get their machine, so they must be down for the holidays. I left a message a week ago, and haven't heard anything, so I thought I'd ask here. I'd really like to get this thing installed this weekend, but it's not looking like that's going to happen.

Thanks,

I've got holes on the side of my pfs IC that the duct bolts on too but it does not align up properly so the duct is kinda just hanging there.

Thanks for the reply. Sorry to hear that yours is screwed up too. I'm not sure which is worse, no holes, or holes in the wrong place. Are these holes threaded? If so, there must be something other than the thickness of the tank for them to thread into.

Does anyone have one that did fit

Thanks,
Rusty

Are you sure?

If its a PFS IC (unmodified) it should have a threaded hole on either side on the endtank.

Can you post a pic of it? maybe your seller wasn't totally truthful w/ you?

Yeah, I can probably blame this on Ryan The IC is new, purchased directly from PFS, so that shouldn't be a problem.

He did mention that it was a newer design than what they used to sell, but I have no idea of just how new it is. Perhaps the instructions were written for the older IC, though the duct still looks like it's supposed to bolt right to the end tanks. I'm also 100% sure there are no threaded holes.

I'll go take a couple pics, and post them in a few minutes. Maybe someone can tell if this is indeed a newer design.

Thanks,
Rusty

Is it red? Mine has two holes for attaching the duct and it fits very well.

By the way I just spoke to Ryan a few minutes ago. He is the only one holding down the fort for the holidays.

Yep, it's red. Ryan just called, and confirmed that it is supposed to have two threaded holes. He said they drill these in-house to match the duct, since all the ducts tend to be slightly different. Once the holes are drilled, they install nutserts, with 6mm threads. In the case of mine, they must have forgot to drill the holes.

For the record, they offered to drill the holes, and install the nutserts, but that doesn't seem worth the trouble to send it back. They also offered to send me the nutserts, but I don't have access to a 6mm tool, so I'll use a standard size if I install them. Ryan also mentioned putting some weatherstripping between the duct and the intercooler, and not bolting the duct in at all. That would certainly make it easier to get the intercooler out of the way when you need access to the front of the motor.

One way or the other, I'll work it out. BTW, I did take some pics, but there's really no need to post them now. If anyone wants them, drop me an email and I'll sent them along.

Cheers,
Rusty

I have the same ic and my airduct just hangs, doesn't match up correctly too. But it seems to be working fine for me. I'll take pics tomorrow and show you guys. Little late tonight.
