you can just clean it. use a high pressure hose, and rinse it down well. make sure you get it dry before you put it back in

Uh, shouldn't he be cleaning it with a K&N type filter cleaner and then applying K&N oil?

I thought that was the routine.

thats the picky way to doit. i dont really think it makes a difference either way. all your doing is removing soot/dirt and bugs that restrict the airflow

The filters on the Apex-i are not the same as K&N. They are dry filters. IIRC you don't oil them.

Oops, I just oiled mine. It shouldn't hurt though. Plus, it was dirty and oily when I pulled it out just from sucking in all of the crap under the hood. By the way, I would still recommend the K&N cleaner as it cleans any oil or other sticky debris off the filter.

Don't want to start a new thread, but there is a Mazda dealer that sells cheap OEM parts that is always referenced on this forum, I just can't find his info right now. Any help?

you were not in the wrong to sugest it. since oil and water do not mix i can see how it would be helpful. also i noticed with all the intake filters i have ordered in the past. they were all pre-oiled
