Pettit starter booster problem

I installed Pettit's starter booster about 9 months ago to cure the ignition clicking that FD's sometimes have. Problem-free operation til now.
The car's been in storage for 4 months now and upon turning the key today to the "on" position...and the engine starts cranking! Then I turned the key further to the "start" position and nothing happened at that position.
Has this happened to anyone? With or without Pettits starter booster.

Do you think the relay may have gone bad?

Uhhh how is the battery? You said it's been sitting, however are you sure the battery is good? If not, you will get the slow crank no start.

The only way to know for sure if the pettit starter booster is the problem, is to temporarily disconnect it, and rewire it back to stock and see if you have the same problem.

I'm definitely going to remove it and test w/o it. Just the fact that the motor cranked from the "on" position and did nothing at the "start" position tripped me out.
The battery is old but still doing the job.
How could the car sitting in storage with the negative battery cable disconnected affect the starter booster?

the car was in storage because I finally popped the motor so I wont need to actually start the motor til my rebuild is done.
Are there any alternatives to the starter booster?

To me it sounds like your actual ignition switch (with the key) is going bad. Mine started clicking the starter when it was on its way out.

You could try to hook up 12v directly to the starter solenoid and make sure that kicks over the motor and you can rule out the actual starter and then work upstream and find the issue.

oh dang, yeah it may be time to replace the switch then. The car has 186k so its open season on everything.

if you wired the "starter booster" (aka relay + zipties) up like it was supposed to, and it sounds like you did, there's no way it could result in the symptoms you described. I'd check the ignition switch.
