Pettit SS Downpipe vs. HKS MildSteel

I was wondering what the pluses are of getting the pettit SS over the mild steel HKS? Is it worth the extra 100 bucks? The pettit looks more "sliek" and doesn't have a big chamber by the turbo. As is were the HKS is cheap? Any tips?

Thanks

~Luke

The Pettit (& M2) is a FULL 3" dia, The HKS is only 2.75" and has the same restrictive casting at the turbo end as the stock precat. also my understanding is that MS DPs will burn through much faster than SS

You'll have a better chance of passing a smog visual inspection with the mild steel though. Depending if he's ****, Mr. smog-guy may have a few questions for you if he spots a shiny pipe underneath with his flashlight.(And he will look for the O2 sensor). Unless you drive on salted roads or near the coast, the HKS pipe is fine and will probably outlast the motor. And you'll have 100 bucks for a boost or water temp guage/pod or a Cusco strut bar.

the M2 pipe has the O2 sensor mount right up by the Turbo flange and in full view. - I passed Smog at a TEST ONLY station with my M2 DP, the inspector didn't even comment on the ThermoTec wrap!

With the money you save you can just get the HKS Jet-coated. HKS is also easier to install. But I'd consider M2 before Pettit for the same reason with installation.

I got the mild steel Bonez pipe from rx7.com. It is 3" and after a year of use, the paint is burnt off the underside. I think before this thing ever actually corrodes all the way through that I will have had bigger problems. Undoubtedly stainless is better, but I think plain steel is just fine too.

Well I knew that this thread would come up again. DO NOT get the Pettit, I got the Pettit from Jason at the RX-7 store (good deal, he was great). However after installing the downpipe the flange that connects on to the CAT is not straight. I have to tighten the bolts all the way down and it "pushes" it's self together. I can tell it's putting a strain on the exhaust system.
If I had to do it over again, I would go with the M2 downpipe, of course they are always out of stock on everything.
Anyways my 0.02
