Pettit Racing has too pull my engine :(

So i brought my car to Pettit for a vaccum job and a check up . . . good thing i did. They said they need to pull the engine and reseal it plus other stuff; it's going to cost me $3000. Apparently the person who installed the new engine did a half assed job. The oil pan is crushed from someone trying to jack it from there. The coolant lines are all messed up and wiring is messed up too. I'm kinda dissappointed because i thought i bought a FD that was in good condition because it ran well and seemed well taken care of.

I refuse to give up on the car. I've wanted one for so long and damnit i'm going to stick with it until it's running and running well. I don't know why i posted this thread; maybe because some of you will relate to my situation. I'm going to Pettit tomorrow to get a list of things they'll do to my car . . . . i'll keep everyone posted.

I know the feeling. My rebuild job quickly went to a $9,000 rebuild and has been down for 2 months.

I miss my car.

Please get that list from Pettit and tell them not to do any work yet and call Jeff at Maztech for a second opinion. I bet you it will cost HALF if not less if you go there because he is honest about it.

That's a serious ripoff. You could buy a new reman engine from malloy and have jeff install it for ~3200 total wtf is pettit thinking?

That's my opinion and I LIKE pettit. Cam did the engine in my 93...Jeff my 94

Pettit can be expensive, but their work is top notch. It's true there are many other great shops out there that may be cheaper......but for the most part in life how many times do you spend less and receive more? That's the way I have always looked at it when taking mine to Cam and I have never been disappointed. My car has 90K+ original miles and Cam has made it run just as smooth as when it had 30K. Plus having him take you for a ride in his 3-rotor is worth the trip to his shop

haha, yea- I should have. I've gotten like 9 boxes from malloy over the last month, and all those trips to the store for oil/parts really add up.

ASI racing, down south.. off commercial blvd. I believe Chad installs 3mm ceramic seal ported motor for 4200 bucks, off the top of my head. I have one of his motors in my car, has 65k miles+ on it, detonated audibly, TWICE, and still made over 320whp on stock twins. I now have a GT40r on the same motor, and at 10 psi it pulls harder then the stockers did at 15 psi...more then one of his motors made 370whp on stock twins...
heres the #....954-566-2472.

how can he do it for so cheap? the reman is about $2500 plus freight. that means he'll do r&r for only about $400? that's a good deal.

a reman is 2200 shipped.....he does the R&R for 800
been there for 35 years

the point is it shouldn't even be close. new engine cost compared to fixing some oil leaks or whatever bs they said. Any way I didn't say they aren't capable of doing great work
they are great for those who don't care about price tag but just want their car working again. Just giving the guy an example in case this isn't his situation

im assuming they are going to rebuild it as he said he needed it resealed. it is weird that it would be running great though and then him bringing it to a shop and then them telling him his enigne is blown. fixing a few oil leaks/oil pan and doing a vac job for 3k is quite a bit.

Well here's what they said: Apparently the engine was resealed with epoxy and that's where my oil leak is coming from. One of the motor mounts was busted and the harnesses are installed wrong. So they're going to have to pull the motor and reseal it; the motor runs fine and is strong so i'm guessing the person who installed the newer engine or the person who rebuilt it did a half assed job.

I'm okay with the price and they explained all my options and are even keeping my car for 2 weeks extra until i can receive the money from my account. They're going to replace all the hoses, thermostat, the bad motor mount, fuel filter, and the crushed oil pan. Also, i'm going to get a vaccum hose job and get my dp, intake, cb, and ast installed.

I'm glad i went to Pettit and i think they were very fair and helpful. Maybe i can get them to take me for a ride in one of their 3 rotor cars

PS: I'll keep my options open next time i need rotary work; i just went to Pettit for their reputation for excellence (although i have heard bad things here and there). Next time i need serious work done i'll call each of the places everyone has mentioned BUT Pettit has been great with me so far and if i am totally satisfied they will have my buisness for a long time.
