Because he's a noob, completely unfamiliar and was being completely uninformed.

As far as the noob goes, you seriously never know man, some people have more money than sense.

My advice is drive it for a while first and do the reliability and maint mods. Then take your time upgrading. You might just find yourself spending $4-5k on stuff you didn't expect (like the motor taking a dump). Then you're sitting on an expensive turbo with no motor...
Enjoy it bone stock first as Mazda designed it and see if you need more...

Ok... I've sat back and watched this long enough.
Yes, Use the seach button.. its a good tool, use it all the time myself(no one knows everything).
I have to defend fastazfd3s, because he is my friend. And some of what he says is true. I am only defending him on the going single turbo aspect. Everything else he brought on himself(sorry man
).
You can go single turbo for around 4-5K, all you have to do is know the right people and mabey be a little lucky. Now, im not talking about T-88 here.. but someting relatively decent like a T04-S. There are deals out there on everything.. you just have to find them. It also helps to be able to do all your own installation.
How much my kit was: (everything is within $100)
T04-R: $800
intercooler: $800
pipeing: $250 << this includes greddy elbow
manifold: $400
Wastegate: $300
Down pipe: $20 << that is correct
Power FC: $500
fuel pump: $150
Fuel Press Reg: $100
I think that about covers it.. So, lets see that comes out to about around $3300 you can add in Misc stuff that I might have forgot.. so $4000.
Now, my engine is not stock. I have a pretty big street port. how much did that cost..lets see.. rebuid kit + 2 new housings. Came out to around $1500
So for around $5500 I went from stock to an FD with over 500HP. Now I do not have the paper work to back these prices up. So you're just going to have to go off my word. It really helped that I had good friends(Chris, Igy and Van) to help me with all the work. So NONE of my money went into a shops pockets.(thousands saved)
Now, Rich.. I'd like to address your turbo set up.
It's not a bad set up, and I'm sure it's as fast as you say it is. But think about this.. what happens if you need a simple re-build? I know it dosnt take a long time to remove your turbos. But can you pull them, re-build them and be back on the road in one day? I can.. A single turbo is so much easier to work with.
So please don't say you cant do a reliable single turbo set up for around 5K. Now everything else fastazfd3s said.. thats on him. Oh, and if anyone dosnt belive what my car can do.. let me know, and I might go prove it to you.
BTW Rich if you are back when I go thru Texas on my way home I would like to swing by and see your car.

Hey guys didn't mean to spark a back and forth argument
but during all the ideas thrown out there i learned a lot. I know that the car is fast already and it is stock i just want to add maybe 50-60 HP and make it more reliable and 10x more fun to drive
. I don't see myself getting a single turbo any time soon i just want to get some reliable mods.

Anyways back to the topic, if you are only looking for a gain of 50-60 HP you can easily do that with basic bolt-ons:
Just a quick list of things you could do that will allow you to reach your goal/expectations with your desired budget. I'll even listed them in the order that I think is best (unless anyone has a better way). These are assuming you did all the work yourself.
-Boost and Water Temp gauges with gauge pod) = $100-$140
-Upgraded radiator/AST = $400-$700
-Hallman MBC, Apexi PFC = $1100-$1300
-Downpipe = $200-$300
-Intake, Catback = $500-$800
-Greddy Front 2 Row FMIC
-Resonated midpipe = $100-$300
**(optional) think hard about doing this mod, do a search to find the pros and cons of a MP**
-bigger injectors = $???
-misc = $500-$5000
**in case you blow your motor and you need to get a new one**
TOTAL COST
$4000-$5000 (add another $5-$7K in case you need a new motor).
The good thing is you can start modding right away and do it one at a time.
Anyways there are lots of people making 50-100 RWP over stock with just bolt-ons on this site, just browse around and you'll find them.

. When will you be going through Texas? I should be back by around August 7th or so.
Who the F#@k cares about dedicated drag racing? For the street, upwards of 350 rwhp in a 2700 lb car is a LOT of power....
i't 7 in the morning, i cant believe i just read this whole thread. most of it i coulda done without.. anyways sum1 said somehing about 2700 lbs a while back. i have a 93 touring, how much does my car weigh? i heard tourings weigh like 400 lbs more than r1's, is this true? all from speakers and a sunroof????

Factory specs for 93's have the BASE 5spd as the lightest at 2789#s
and Touring Autos at 2923#s as the heaviest,
stock R-1's were right at 2800#s (the extra Oil Cooler, added front chassis brace, and Rear spoiler added weight).
The 5spd Tourings were spec'ed at 2862#s (b/k Leather seats are heavier, the Bose Tube weighs in at about 15#s w/ amp and there is extra sound insulation not to mention the sunroof.)

The total weight range for stock 93fd's is only 134#s lightest to heaviest.
