Performed MODS need to modify ECU HELP!

Ok, I dont want to pay over $1k for a power fc or haltech ems. I was wondering if there is a way you can have your stock ECU programmed to the exact mods on your car. There is a few like new smic, turbos, exhaust, intake, radiator, down/midpipe, injectors, fuel pump etc...How much would this cost to get the stock one modified or buy one already modified? Let me know.

Pettit Racing in Florida also sells basically the same thing...their program may be different, but the hardware changes are identical.

I would try to find a used pettit unlimited ecu from someone on the forum. You should be able to get one for about 400. If you decide to pay pettit or m2 the 700 or whatever they are charging, you are better off getting a pfc for 850, and being able to later reprogram yourself. I wish the pfc was out when I bought my pettit ecu, now I will have to upgrade again.

Btw what mods do you have exactly? If you have upgraded injectors, you will definitely need something that is programmable such as pfc, aem, haltech etc. The m2 and pettit is only good for stock injectors I believe.

Is this the current mods on the car? Do you have a boost gauge?

HONESTLY?? I'd park the car and save the 1K for a Power FC. Unless of course you have a few motors sitting around.

As already mentioned, there are quite a few places that offer reprogrammed ECU's. They don't necessarily reprogram your exact ECU, however yours is required for the exchange (core charge fee).

Pettit: http://www.pettitracing.com/
Rotary Performance: http://www.rx-7.com/
M2: http://www.m2performance.com/

M2 is by far the most conservative of the bunch. The Pettit ECU will run on a streetport with all bolt-ons without any problems. If you are looking for a reprogrammed ECU, I would recommend the Pettit ECU over any of the others. The Pettit Limited would be just fine. The only difference in the Limited and Unlimited is fuel cut at 14.7 PSI which is NOT a bad thing.

The question for you is what is the goal of your car? If you just need to increase your A/F to run a little higher boost but keep it safe, any of these will do the trick. If you are looking to get the most HP out of your car, then you will need a programmable ECU like the PowerFC, AEM or Haltech.

The reprogrammed ECU's will get you to around 360rwhp or so but that's about it. For some, that's more than enough. For others, it's not. Think about what you want to do with your car and you'll know what's right for you.

save up the money for the power fc, just as turboboy said, save up for just the ecu of the power fc (would be comparible to getting a remapped), then go buy the commander/datalogit later to fine tune it

My opinion is if you can afford to do mods to your car, you better be able to afford a new ecu. If you can't, you should have left the damn thing alone....

Autothority ECU? - Mahjik?

All...I have seen a Few FD's with Full Exhaust and reliability mods, running Autothority ECU. Why not any mention of this in the threads? Are the M2, etc. etc. ECU upgrades superior to the autothority?

I've never heard anything (good or bad) about an Autothority ECU on an FD. Personally, I wouldn't trust my engine to anything that hasn't been widely proven.

Maybe someone else can chime in on the Autothority ECU with some more info.

Autothority tunes chips for Porsche engines (and VW). I have never heard of them tuning chips for rotary engines. Pettit and M2 have made the chips for years and people have had good success with them.

Thanks

Thanks. I was looking into an FD here in GA that had the autothority ECU. It's on Autotrader. For those interested do a search for a black manual 199X RX-7, within 100 miles of 30308, priced @ 18,900.
