Question The Perfect 7 For Everyday Driving???

If you could design the perfect rx7 with the most all around power and it was to be for everyday driving.....how would it be done? What would the best parts be for it? What would it take to create this golden platter?

The Seven still has some pretty amazing power, so if you can live with 250 - 280 Hp get an intake, larger IC, and all the reliability mods you can throw at it... there's no hard and fast rule on how to build a reliable 7, all that's known is that the higher you push the HP, the more stress you put on everything else and something will eventually fail, if you truely want civic type of reliability, make your fd, an N.A. and do regular maintenance...

Ultimate Reliability you would get a non turbo second gen and go from there. Intake, headers, exhaust, suspension and wheels and you will last forever if you are talking ultimate reliability. Even a third gen like you posted would still give you some problems it would be a great daily driver but then again it wouldnt be totally reliable.

When **** breaks I fix it.

The one thing I'd like to change is to go back to sequential so that I'd have that low-end power back.

Reliability, like I said take the FD and yank the turbos, make it N.A. and she'll last forever.. problem is everybody on the boards will think you're nuts

Nothing nuts about it.

A well setup highly-modified NA 3-rotor can put you nicely into the 400 range.

Bought it all used (on this forum) except the down pipe and catback. Got an ECU for about $450 and an aluminum intake for $250, I painted it black with a black wrinkle paint top - looks good and pretty stealthy.

ok we all know the FD is un-reliable thats nothing new to anyone, everyone who has heard of the car knows that, but there are different levels of reliablity the car does have. It may not be good but it has a level of reliability. So..... what would be the ultimate setup no exspenses spaired for the FD to be as "reliable" as possible, some people think running single is more reliable than running twins, what are ya'lls opinions?

I think unpredictable is a better word than unreliable. All cars cost money to maintain, especially cars that are 8-10 years old (although that is changing with todays technology).

To worsen this, we have a lot of "uneducated" people putting their hands inside their engine bay daily. One slip and the reliability factor worsens. The forum is a wonderful source of quick, accessible information. However, there are a lot posting here who are NOT professionals (including myself) and who don't understand the intricate workings. It's easy to read some rhetoric posted by these individuals and consider it "common knowledge".

I'm not jaded, my interpretation of the post is more of a "how do I make an FD as reliable as possible", all things relative. We all know a 1993 FD isn't as reliable as a 2002 accord.

I was taking it as he'd stick with the original 13b. Maybe I'm reading it wrong.

RX-7 Reliability Mod #1:

Get second car.


But for the cost of a new Civic ($18), you could get a pretty darn good FD with enough money left over to get a daily driver. I'm going to be the most practical with that daily driver and get a Toyota Pickup or Tacoma, so I can carry loads when I have to - they're very reliable and cheap to own.. and the 4cyl versions get pretty good fuel economy actually. 20+MPG.

I daily drive mine... No biggies other than an ignition problem I had one night where the car went apeshit when I pushed in the clutch at a light.. It wouldn't hold an idle without gas, it died twice at idle, was shooting mad flames from what my friend in another car said which I assume was from it not firing on the ignition where the gas built up in the exhaust and when it did fire, it light it all up.... Like typical occurences of shooting flames but on a much bigger level and I have a highflow cat. I thought I blew the motor but there was no bang and it's fine to this day. every so often I get an electrical malfunction light so I think the wiring harness has to be replaced sometime in the near future as it is still the original.

We all knew that since the begining that our cars are not reliable in any way. I guess the most reliable plan if you are driving it everyday is to plan and save ahead. Like know where to change the motor when it blow and save up money to back that up. Turbos and etc... This is what I am doing now.
