Lightbulb Perceptions of the 7

Some of these people pay a lot of money for low mileage 7's or rare models.
40-45k for some of them..

Anyone else think it's a waste of money? I dunno.. Collecting is their sorta thing I guess? I could see that. I guess I'm just in a different mind set when it comes to cars. "If the difference isn't night and day, why pay extra"

On a side note... How long do you guys think these cars will last? I mean the chassis and everything else that's not so easily replaced. At what time do you guys think they'll need to be fully restored like the old hot rods of today?

These things pop into my head from time to time when I think of pouring money into my FD. I'm even considering keeping it indefinitely and figure I'll just restore it when the time is needed.

I think the FD will make a very cool classic.

mazda rust proofing on the fd is pretty damn good. hope that means they last a little longer

its all in how you maintain it, drive it, and the weather. i have a friend with a 72 datsan 240z and it was hardly driven(aprox 45k miles on chassis and engine). mint condition and still runs strong after all these years.

I've never seen the point to buying a car and then storing it unless it is ultra rare. I like to drive my cars.

I think it is a waste of money, like the spirit r. From the factory the spirit r is a better car but when modification takes place both the s6 and s7(including spirit r) are the same thing. I guess if you only see an rx7 from a collectors standpoint it would matter. I bought my rx7 with the intention of making it scca legal and going to the track, so the trim model on an FD is worthless to me because they all come with the same basic stuff.

if u wanna keep it for a classic

then modding it will depreciate the car..

it's worth more bone stock.. even tho u may have made the car "better"

My personal plan is to own three FDs:
1 - Track Car, RE body, 20B, etc...
2 - low mileage 95 keep it in immaculate condition
3 - my current fd - nothin fancy, could be a dd if necessary

I'd love to add a Spirit R to my collection...but I don't ever see that working. And I don't see the point in letting them sit, I enjoy driving them very much. Just have to save them for the special occasions.

No point in me owning a Spirit as i will modify most of my cars anyway.

For me:

1 touring/street car, burnout kit, slammed, work rezaxs, with aggressive fitment. Simple power, just clean and well maintained, used majority of the time.

1 racing type car (R1 or base). big power, fat wheels (work meister s1 3 piece), tall gearing for top speed.

I'm restoring my FD for me. Or as my engine builder said, I'm "unfucking" it.

I plan on keeping it as long as I earn enough money to pay the mortgage and put food on the table. If the day comes that I can't do those things, then I'll sell it. Until then, I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world.

To some cars are worth more for that classic, unraped machinery, my friend jus bought a nice older 300z for 5500 only had thirty thousand on the chassis an it was garaged for years, iono, its there thing, i like to drive my car though not stare at it... an be like yep that cars nice...

So, as a car lover I asked him why he didn't have a commuter car. He asked me, If I was married to a super model would I have sex once a week or everyday. so now my FD is my daily driver.

You're doing a good job so far bud, keep it up!

I remember many years ago when I used to spend all my money at KDR, and Dave always told me, 'dude, drive the car. enjoy it, that's what it's for.'

I did just that.....I bought my pristine stock R1 in 1998 with only 27k miles. Now I have over 112k miles on the chassis and it's modded out the wazoo, but looking back on the process, I wouldnt change a thing

Drive the dam thing. Japanese cars do not have a good history of appreciating in value (although this may change in the future). Besides, inflation will probably negate any appreciation. Cars are made to be worked on and driven.
