parking lights always on mod?

ok, i've done search after search, and can't find anything on this...

my hks turbo timer is on the way, and i want to mod my parking lights so they are always on with the engine, so my fans will run while the turbo timer is doing it's thing.

i've never had a turbo timer on a car before, but i'm assuming i can't just wire the lights into an ignition on connection, because while the car is cooling down the ignition's off, right?

is there a way to wire them into the timer itself? anybody done this, or have a link with instructions to do so?

You don't really need a turbo timer with a FD, same goes with a TII.

It is a better idea in general to just drive the car out of boost for the last couple of miles. Running the car when it isn't moving just lets it heat soak more.

really??? wow. too bad the idea is to have them on while the turbo timer is running the engine, so the fans run longer. there are days when it's hot here that i have to sit in my car for 5 minutes before the fans shut off - that's my signal that it's cooled down enough. since i've started doing that, i haven't had any more problems with vapor lock, which i've had since i got the car two years ago.

therefore, i'm installing a turbo timer and would like the parking lights to stay on in order to help cool the engine down (plus i always run with the p.lights on since people seem to not see my car coming when they're off).

i could do the fan switch mod, but again, i'd like the parking lights to remain on anyway. does that clarify my situation some?

i had oil and water temp gauges in my car for awhile and the car gets hotter while you are sitting turbo timing it than it would if you just turned it off. my car came with a tt so i use it to run the fans after i turn it off

i have thought of that - it would seem the engine would cool faster if just the fans were running...however, it would also seem the oil and coolant wouldn't cool down properly/as quickly, since they wouldn't be circulating. having just the fans running would basically just cool the engine bay, but nothing internal.

yes? no? the general consensus on here seems to be letting the car idle for 30 sec to several minutes depending on engine load.

i think as long as it only idles for five minutes or less, it should cool the engine down. anything longer, and yeah, temps will rise due to lack of airflow.

any other opinions on this? i want to do this right!

I also think a turbo timer is a waste of time. First of all, if I'm just driving for a shorter trip, I don't boost a lot or go WOT. So the turbos never get too hot. I just let it idle for 30 seconds and shut off.

If I'm going out to DRIVE, then I just drive easy the last couple of minutes. When I park, I turn on the parking lights and A/C to 3 (set for hot air) and let it idle for a couple of minutes until the fans don't stay on when I turn off the A/C and lights. This seems to work well so far.
