Parking brake cable stretched too far ?

Hi All,
My 7's parking brake stopped functioning so decided to remove the center console and play with the adjustment screw.
But well, it made no sense - pulled the cable several inches by hand easily. Is there an "easy" way to identify what's wrong or figure if I need a new cable? Any advice?
Thanks!

Did it just suddenly lose all tension when you pulled it one day? You could have a broken cable. If you block the front wheels and jack up the rear, you can look at the caliper brake arm and watch for movement while someone pulls the e brake. Otherwise if it gradually got looser, I would imagine it's just out of adjustment.

Thanks. Yes, turns out the front cable broke from the other end where it links with the two rear cables.
