it burns my *** to see 16 and 17 year olds with fds....most of them wouldnt ever have know of the car if it wasnt for that stupid *** movie....on second though....give them the automatic fds....just leave the manual ones to the people who really take the time to appreciate the uniqueness of the car.

Taking your car to the track to race is the absolute best thing you could do. You will learn to handle the car in a very good environment. This will give you great experience, which is very important.

I was not one of the ones complaining about young drivers racing. Other did it, so I didn't have to . My point was that young drivers do not know how to handle a powerful car.

Evidently, you don't know much about car insurance. Rates are based on many factors.
1. Years of driving experience.
2. Accidents and tickets.
3. Geographical area.
4. Type of vehicle.
5. Gender
6. Marital status.

Guess who pays the highest rate? The single male with less than one year of driving experience, driving a high performance sports car. If he has a bad record, he pays even more (if he can get insurance at all). Everyone pays more in densely populated areas. Years of driving experience are a PRIMARY factor in determining rates. Young drivers rates decrease each year, as they gain experience.

I see adults that dont know how to drive worth jack...Its all the individual...just cause your 16 doesnt mean that your automatically going to crash...and I completely understand parents worrying about their child but you got to just let go...my mom went crazy when I got my license ( a year ago )...

I think of all the stupid stunts I tried while driving my parent's full-size van
Holy wow that is so true... I'm 19... and I basically killed it back when I was 16... I truly believe I would have killed myself if I started off with an FD. I now say I was LUCKY enough to have to save up on my own and buy my own FC. I'm glad I started off with an FC. I firmly believe that you should start out with something way less potent than an FD.

Personally... I say NO! Do NOT give him the keys if you value your kid's and car's life... He will want to see what it can do.

I'm 17 with a rx7. I got it when i turned 17 in May. Whats so wrong about that. Just because i'm younger means i dont deserve this car? Yes my parents baugth ti for me btu i worked my *** off for it. I spent all my 3 monthes of sumemr workign wth my dad i had tog et good grades and ****. I been wanting this car since i first laid my eyes ion it at age 10. Whats so wrong abotu that. Plus my car is probably in better shape then most of yours. Its a 1995 black with 58,000 on it. I treat it like an angel. You guys shouldnt just bash on any young person that owns one. I should deserve the privilege of driving this car liek any1 else

Wow so just cuz u worked 3 months and got good grades you suddenly deserve some props for it? That just shows how immature u are.
In the real world, 3 months of hard work aint ****. Getting good grades is nice and I applaud you for getting them... but it doesnt mean u deserve anything, let alone a car.
I could care less how you got your car, what counts is how u drive and take care of it. And like you said you treat it like an angel which sounds great to me.

California is closer to Arizona than Texas is, do as I did. www.bondurant.com Their programs are awsome, you would learn so much about car control and other things as well like what to do when the car is completely out of control, not to mention track time, I would recomend this school to anyone, or another one I am sure there are many schools out there, and trust me, it's a lot of fun.

Has any one other than myself taken a course here or somewhere else? Just curious.

Am I the only on being irritated by the people either not reading the thread or COMPLETLY missing the point?

The problem here is E-X-P-E-R-I-E-N-C-E
My best friend's little brother has been driving karts since before he was 10 years old. His brother and I would also take him to SCCA races, and the two of us were always giving him pointers. He had the option of getting is restricted license at 15 and his regular license at 16, but he didn't get his license until 18 because he didn't think he was ready for it. I've known these guys for almost 10 years, and I can tell you, not even once has he ever tried to do anything stupid. Let me put it to you this way, we trusted him enough to drive my best friend's 500hp 911, then my best friend's 911, my FD, and his uncle trusts him to drive a Boxster on the Autobahn in Germany.

This guy has been surrounded by Speed all his life, and is one of the few I would trust driving my cars.

It's all about experience, and some adults don't even pay attention to what their doing. It's worse when a 16 year old doesnt pay attention to what he is doing, and doesn't have the experience to back it up, and it gets even worse when the same kid is handed the keys to a fast and capable sports car.

Well, I opened my thread asking tbe other adults how do they fell about giving the keys of an FD to a 16 year old.

Instead, all the 16 year olds (and a hair older) came to defend themselves :p Im glad to see some of you admitting it was a bad decision to get an FD as a first car or as a car so young. All I can say is goodluck in that I hope you never fall the victim of peer pressure into doing something which you can painfully regret later.

sixteen year olds think they know it all...about one in a thousand can drive worth a damn (driving school...kart racing etc...)

i wouldnt let a minor touch my car. period. especially without me in it.

to the kid who had to work for three months to get his fd: kid you got another thing coming when you get out from under your spoiling parents. three months of work without an education in the real world will get you a ten speed bicycle after your bills are paid...IF your bills are paid... just cuz you did some shoveling for your daddy doesnt mean you got skillz to drive a high performance car.

i looked for a year in order to find my fd. you know what i found?? i found at least 90 percent of them completely beat to **** by young drivers. mine was nearly perfect..however it was purchased from an established adult who was not psychotic.

*WOW* 3 months? Well holy **** you sure DO deserve an FD don'tcha? Kid, for the past year I have been working 15 credit hours in college and 55 hours a week at work. I have bills to pay, and my mouth to feed. I still have another couple yrs of this lifestyle before I will have enough to buy an FD. I have no life because of the hours I do. So pleeeeease don't tell me you think you deserve one because you "worked your *** off for 3 months and got good grades and ****."

Besides... it's not even about what you think you did to deserve one... Like Flyebye said, it's all about experience. What experience with high power cars have you had? Who knows how many FDs were lost because of lack of experience and/or immaturity? I ALSO surely know that if I were given an FD at that age I'd do some damage to myself, the car, or others. But I surely never would have thought that at the time. So we can expect to see more 16, 17 year old spoiled rotten kids thinking they deserve one.

Stop stereotyping when you CLAIM the that majority of recent car crashes are from mexicans and whites in mustangs? Where is your hard data to prove your claim?

I'm sorry, but if you want to get involved in a debate, use proper grammar and spelling. That way, you DUN SUND LIIKE DIS! I don't know whether to take your seriously or just die of laughter trying to read what you wrote.

ok, I don't think anyone answered my question. I've seen at least twenty 16-19 year-olds with FDs on these forums. Where are you (or they) getting all of the money for this?! Here in Canada, the FD is an expensive used car $20k...which you could get a nice SUV or something else.

do you know why stereotypes even come about?
cuz they are TRUE a LOT of the time...
unless you just make one up off the top of your head.. (hint)

and yeah man if your the most mature guy in the world, if your 16 you've been driving how long? how good are you at controlling a vehicle and interacting with the environment? can you honestly say that you dont believe you will be a much better driver in a few years?

i saw that thread about posting people's gf's pics... and man!! your FD does not get you girls. YOU are the one that has to get girls.

and this previous poster who cant speak english... i have seen many ricers wrap their mitsubishi's around trees attempting turns at high speeds.

1. Fd's are expensive. up front as well as lack of reliability. NO matter how much cash a kid has he's going to have down time on the car.

2. Insurance is going to rape him no matter how many classes and no matter how good he is.

3. Every Police officer with a radar gun is going to spooge their pants when they see a teen driving a 20 thousand dollar car. They won't need a reason to pull him over. They just write the ticket. Honestly, the chances of you winning in court are slim. Thats the way the system is. Corrupted.

4. He's going to have every punk *** dick from 16 yrs old to late 30's messing with him trying to get him to race cuz their ******* jelous. They'll rip on him and tell him that he shouldn't be driving that. Do you want your kid to have to deal with that when they're learning to drive. That and guarenteed that some kid at school is going to key it/steal it and go joy riding.

My Grandparents bought me my first car before I was 16. It was a olds delta 88. They bought it for 75 dollars. told me to beat the heck out of it on their 120 acre farm. Within a week I had rolled it sideways three times and ripped the rear axle off. I wlaked away just fine. Was damn fun too. I went to take my driving class and passed on the first try. My instructor was amazed how naturally I handled the car. Switching from a large steel boat like car to a small econo car was like parallel parking a shopping cart. I bought my second car myself for 350 dollars 1978 ford granada. blew the engine on it and the list follows

1 Volvo station wagon...gave it to my dad.
2 Toyota Celica gave it to my brother. he ran it without oil and blew a golf ball sized hole through the block.
3 ford escort ...got t boned
4 mazda rx7 1st gen. frame rusted through. junked it
5 mazda rx7 1st gen gave it to my brother
6 mazda rx7 Turbo II sold it.
7 Mazda 323 sold it when deployed.

And Im only 21 yrs old. I still don't consider myself able to handle a FD. Call me a wuss if you want. I don't care. I just know my limitations.

No, in fact, I'd say "go get a Job and buy a car if you want one." And I would require him to show proof that his insurance is current each month (If he is in a wreck with no insurance, and lives in your house, guess who gets to pay)!

Then if he is able to afford a 15K car and 7K a year in insurance, I'd say... "Time to start paying rent."

I know it sounds cruel to some, but that is how I started out and I think it was good for teaching me responsibility.

I'd also like to say...

In fact, I purchased my first car and moved into my first apartment when I turned 18. I thought it was time to quit freeloading off the parents.

Many of the younger kids I know boast about how they paid for this or that. I equate it to a man I once met who had been running his own software development business for 5 years with little to show for it.

But I was impress that he had accomplished something until I asked him how he could afford to keep running the business and he told me that "for the past five years his parents had been paying his mortgage and his car payments so that he could develope the business."

Any respect I had for him went right out the window at that minute, and he was in his late twenties - early thirties.

I think that if a kid can afford the car, and wants it bad enough then it's his *** and his choice. But let's understand what it really means to be able to afford something first.

No, these cars are way to much car for most 16 year old kids to handle. Couple that with that "I'm invincible!" mentality and you have a recipe for disaster.
My kid is going to be driving soon and as bad as he wants to drive the FD, I think he'll get something quite a bit different. Don't get me wrong, I'll let him drive it on occasion, just not as HIS daily driver.

im 15 and i just got my learners permit a month ago. my dad owns a FD and i know he wont let me drive it until he knows im qualified. he and i split paying for a 1994 Toyota 4runner so that he doesnt have to worry about me wrecking too bad. my dad has a lot of faith in my driving, he doesnt even worry when im driving, he is always looking around out eh windows (now he does, not until i proved myself). but i do know that sometime in the near future i will drive the 7.

I'm 20 and i will be making a six hour trip to Tampa in order to test drive a FD3S. I've had a thing for this car since i saw it on the road when i was 12; Since i have wanted one to the point of obsession.

I'm making the drive to see if the car is right for me. Maybe I am not ready to own this car Hopefully I am. I have never been in a wreck and avoided several dangerous accidents. We'll see.

personally i think you guys are all hateing that you couldn't get an fd at 16 I have an fd and i am 16 I have had it since i was fifteen. And for that year i have been putting mods on it and can handle the power. And I am planning to push a lot more hp so all those who are like thirty and barely have an fd don't be jealous that I roll to high school in a trick out fd. It isn't a death wish when you have been driving for five years like me I have been driving since I was 11. Don't hate!

My Proposition....
I say we make a list of all the smartass kids on this forum and when they need help we just look the other way. Let them blow up thier fds and lowball them the way they do us....the experienced.
