It's also illegal for a high school student to work that many hours.

And I am planning to push a lot more hp so all those who are like thirty and barely have an fd don't be jealous that I roll to high school in a trick out fd. It isn't a death wish when you have been driving for five years like me I have been driving since I was 11. Don't hate!
Since no one else has I will: You are a spoiled bitch. Trying working your way through life. Mom and Dad won't be there forever. I give that FD a year until it's totalled. There is no way a sixteen year old should be able to affored an FD and mod it without parental assistance.

DAMN!!! Are you going to take that??
Maybe I'm included in this... Hmm..
Ghostrider7, You could be that exception.. just prove us over time..
I'm not trying to say all 16 year old kids shouldn't have FD.. long as you are responsible.. and you know how we old folks feel about this.. I know 2 16-18 year olds with FD's... one is wrecked.. but both are good teenagers.. fun to talk to and I like teaching few things I know to them..

Just don't take this too personal and just prove us wrong (don't wreck it and don't blow it up!.. pretty much thats what it means.. )..

(Then again, I also agree that people should learn to ride a 50cc moped before getting a motorcycle) Also, take a skip barber or bondurant class.
YOU ARE THE SMARTEST 15 year old in this FORUM>> maybe out of all the members..

Man.. you said it RIGHT!

We all shouldn't try to just jump in to 400+ RWHP car.. start low and build it.. Its also the key to life, I think??

Its human nature to get adjusted to our environment.. but also we loose perspective when things are handed down to us or try to jump ahead.. If your first car is an FD, what will be your next car?? Ferrari?? Viper?? Indy car??

ie; I love my car even more because i earned it from my hard work.. Also seeing it change over 2.5 years, I appreciate it even more..
I put my own sweat and blood working on this car.. and also help of wonderful RX7 community..

It wouldn't be the same if I just hired someone to put all the performance parts in for me...

Some of you might disagree..

what about the parents who worked so hard most of thier life just so that they could have the one small joy and pleasure of seeing their child get the car clothes and stuff they wanted?? im 17 i drive an FD. my grandparents bought me the car and were more then happy to give it to me.im not gonna disagree with most of u guys here, most 16 year olds are not good drivers. but is the point of this thread to yell at the kids and tell them how stupid thier parents are, or is it to educate FUTURE parents and FD drivers? i think everyone needs to rethink the point of this thread. you guys shoudlnt be trying to run people away from the car and scare parents, you SHOULD be trying to educate and help them understand. all you guys are doing is pissing everyone off and let yourselfs get sucked in by this

Yep, we're all sure you could teach Dave Baringer, Cameron, and Steve Kan how to do things.

Herb may be giving you the benefit of the doubt, but you sound like the typical know-it-all 16 year old guy to me....

And by the way, we try to treat each other with a little bit of class around here. Calling people ****** and "homos" is not respectful and won't make you any friends here. But I guess you don't need friends, you already know everything about these cars.

I'm 17, and my rents did not buy my FD. All they pay for is the insurance, I bought it on my own and I feel I take care of it responsibly, I read up on many sites like this as well as reading Rob's site in and out, I feel I know enough to take care of it as well as myself when driving it.

Then you won't mind telling us what it cost, where the money came from, who signed for the car since you're underage, and whether or not payments are still being made on it.

I've noticed that many young people seem to have an extremely loose definition of "bought" and what constitutes their "own" money...

If you are gonna talk smack, at LEAST learn how to use grammer and stop making run on sentences. Yet another way you just showed your immaturity..

Twice your age huh? You must be in the advanced math class to figure out your 16x2 = my 28 huh?

Poverty? Come on kid, I bet one of my paychecks makes your yearly allowance looks like pocket change.

And besides, I've owned my FD almost 5 years, making me 23 when I bought it. Back then, you were probably still riding your bike with training wheels..

Wow. Everyone needs to chill . . . the so called "mature" people are ragging on the kids and setting a bad example for the younger FD owners in this thread. Everyone is being immature here and fueling the flame. A opinion is a opinion . . . . no need to argue.

Most teenagers are horrible drivers and if they wrap their FD around a telephone pole then maybe they'll learn to respect their lives more; I'd accept a FD if i was fortunate to receive one . . . . regardless if i was ready for it or not.

No actually, none of the "mature" people here are "ragging" on the kids at all. Some of us are old enough to look back and go "Jesus Christ, it's a miracle I even survived through all the stupid things we did". The result is the young people get really defensive and want to show their "angst". Not unexpected behavior.

Ghostrider7, keep showing that maturity pal, it will get you far in life.

The only problem with this would be.... as parents (which is what this post was really trying to address) u dont want it to take wrapping any car around a pole to make your kid "wake up." At that point they might get seriously hurt or worse.

i didnt wanna look in the past 7 pages....but

im 17, and i got my FD when i was 16.

im a very good driver, and very careful and never reckless, and i know this doesnt go far with points that adults would make.

but.

everyone is unique, and different. this doesn't mean all kids are stupid. i know for a fact that most are, but it isnt always in driving.

Sure, kids make up half (or more? i dunno) of car accidents. but the other half is the rest of the ages. I just would be happy if older people would understand that we arent all mishaps and edges, and alot of us are decent and honest, and careful when the times need be it.

The car situation goes much further then an FD. I think more then half of 16 year olds are NOT ready to drive, even if they have their license. Sadly, its really mandatory to have one. (unless a parent doesnt work or you live close to school).

As for myself, im happy i got my FD. I dont regret at all recieving an FD as a first car, but i think of it as more like a godsend. The seven has always been my dreamcar, and still is. I treat it like a baby, and i keep it ready and proper to keep it running for the next day. Im not a couch potatoe, i drive my FD everyday, and since March of 03, its been working fine (exept differential gave way =p). I live 20 miles from school, and everytime i turn the key i always make the sign of the cross so god can watch over me (yes im religious =p, and its saved my *** from crazy drivers). Even out of school, im out at parties, with a couple friends, or just chillin at a house somewhere. Everytime i sit in the seat, i know where i am, and i know what i can do and what can be done ontu me, so i dont *** around.

Basically, realize that there are bad drivers everywhere, young and old, and everyone should be judged equally.

and to answer the question from Post #1, if the kid deserves the FD (good grades, good common sense, good experience with cars and how they work in all situations, and honest) then why not? Age is just a number

my opinion, dont hate =p

PS: Ghostrider7....your making us look bad =p

i agree with rynberg, i dont know how the hell i survived w/ all the dumb *** things i did when i was a teen, driving and not driving.
i am still a bit of a youngster 21, and just recently bought my fd. these cars take more than just knowing how to press a few pedals and turn a wheel to drive. my fd is the 1st real sports car i have owned and i love it. my 1st car was a geo metro... yea it was a 3cylinder, go ahead and laugh. but i thank my parents now for getting that pos for me, no matter how much i hated that car, it being a slow pos prob. saved me from becomming another statstic. not only is an fd a fast car, but being turbo charged makes the car a real learning exprience.
all i have to say for you new drivers, is take it easy. i dont care what you say, or how good of a driver you are, your car can own you before you can "say oops i crapped my pants." -SNL
