overheating
overheating
My friend has a 1994 rx-7 parked out in a field. The car has been overheating since he bought it. He put in a new factory engine and its still overheating in the summer and the turbos dont spool up right. He has it parked as a lawn ornament for about 2 years. Is this a common problem? Is it cheap to fix? Is it worth buying the car from him for $8,000? I really like the car but Ive never owned one. Any help is appreciated.
If his car has severely overheated he may have done permanent damage to the engine(i.e.: coolant seal damage or warp rotor housings) both require a rebuild to fix them($4500 min.) ouch!
*My car was also overheating right after I got a rebuilt motor installed. I'm pretty sure that the engine sealant used during the rebuild may have clogged up the stock radiator. I ended up installing a new Koyo radiator and the overheating stopped however my heater core is still partially clogged.

Take the car to a rotary specialty shop and have them check it out. That's the only way to know for sure. There are 2 shops in the Bay Area that have a good reputation. Ricks Rotary, and Mostly Mazda (Concord). I'm not sure about where to go in Sacto.
