over filled tranny fluid!!
I think my mechanic over filled my manual transmission fluid.
ok I went to a rotary shop thinking that they would know what they're doing, so I gave them 3 bottles
(3 quarts) of redline mtl, he puts in 2.5 quarts, and insisted he needed another 2 quarts, because, he said there were two chambers on the tranny to fill up, 2.5 quarts each chamber netting a total of 5 quarts......
I questioned him a bit, cuz I remembered it being somthing like only 2.5 total, but he insisted it being 5 quarts total 2 each side, so me, being trustful as usual, I run out and buy 2 more, and he fills it up...
well the shifting got smoother than whatever that was in there before...
but now that I've read a bunch of sites and manuals, they all state max cap is 2.5, so I think he may have over filled my tranny...
if so is there a possible way to drain half my fluid with out wasting it all??
or .. is there any bad effects if I left it over filled
thanks

oh there were some drips on the edge of the filler bolt (square one) and drain bolt B (square also)
bolt B was tight, but the filler bolt had like 1/3" of its threads exposed, I was only able to tighten it ~2 turns, I didn't want to use too much force cause I don't have the proper squre head socket (was using a monkey wrench, didn't want to strip it)

ahh **** where did you take it for the fuild change?
One thing you could try is getting one of those small Aquarium hose pumps (parts places have them too) and put one hose in the fill hole and the other hose in the oilbottle or bucket. Then when your oil is at level with the hole, tighten her up. Just make sure your car is level.

Yeah theres, two chamber but I heard that you were not supposed to touch the second chamber. The one with the reccessed square plug, I got this from
http://www.rx7turboturbo.com/robrobi...w_to_misc2.htm but it doesn't say why you shouldn't.

Two 'fill' holes
There are two of what appear to be fill holes on the side of the transmission, and you're supposed to use the lower of the two to fill it. I don't know what the higher one is, but that's how people manage to get 5 quarts in. I've heard that it eventually makes shifting more difficult with the 5 quarts.
To get the excess out and have it remain usable, if you scrupulously clean the side and bottom of the transmission, then remove the lower fill bolt, the excess will come out, but it will be messy. Just let it drain from that hole till it stops, then the level will be correct (at the bottom of the lower hole).
By the way, there are two drain plugs also, I hope your guy knew to drain from both of them.

let me get this straight
1) jack up car on all fours to acheive a level lift
2) remove bottom square plug until it stops pouring out..
.. so after it stops pouring out of the bottom square plug, I should have around the right capacity??
oh i don't care about the excess that spills out, I just want to use whats in there, with out having to drain all of it and refilling with new ones

Pumped, you got it.
But just a technicality, and I'm sure this is what you meant, I'd call it the 'lower' plug - not either of the ones which are truly on the 'bottom.'

I had the exact same thing happen. At first they underfilled it which caused nasty noises, so I took it back and they then used the upper bolt which very much overfilled it and made it hard to shift. Finally had to drain it back out myself to get it right. Was one of the last straws that made me decide to do as much of my own work as I can.
