Question Opinions Please

I was hoping some of you guys would give me some opinions on what I'm looking to do. I got my '93 touring last summer and it was nailed in the rear quarter by a bus 13 days after I got it. No structural damage, but nonetheless, I didn't get to spend much time driving it last summer. Now this summer I just went under the knife for surgery on my right shoulder. surgery = no driving. So now that I have some time to let some paint settle, I'm thinking of finally applying the mods I've been researching for the last year or so. This is what I'm thinking. Anything you could add, encourage or suggest would be great. Thanks for your help guys.

APEXi N1 Dual Exhaust
APEXi Power Intake
Front Strut Bar
Defi Boost and Water Temp Guages on pillar mount
Complete '99 front bumper kit w/ lights

Do you think upgrading the BOV would be worth it, or just a waste of money. EVERYTHING on my car is stock as it is now! Once again, thanks for your help guys.

Not a bad start, but don't forget a boost gauge.

I would suggest a downpipe if you can get it through emissions testing. Getting rid of that oven (pre-cat) is the best thing you can do for your car!

Well, the BOV isn't necessary. If you *want* one, get one, but it's not something you need to change.

Looks like a nice start to modifying the car. However, if everything is completely stock right now, I would skip the Apex'i Intake and get a downpipe instead.

Good luck!

BOV is a total waste of money. Get a downpipe, it's a great upgrade that should be done before CB and Intake. If you get all three, you'll need to upgrade the ECU as well. I would recommend doing the intake and DP and wait on the N1 until you get an aftermarket ECU. N1 is loud and will draw attention to cops.

I think you can see hwat everyone else is saying, get a downpipe first. Your engine and turbos will thank you

You Can run a DP Catback & Intake w/ out a CPU upgrade as long as you limit boost to 11psi (change pills or use add on boost controller) the BOOST guage is a MUST and should be done FIRST to help determine if your engine and engine/turbo management systems are healthy. the the DP should be next - this is both a REALIABILITY & PERFORMANCE mod. A BOV is BlingBling only - the stock one works fine and is plenty loud if you disconect it fron the airbox, I did for a while but actually got tired of listening to it.

I run all my mods on a stock ecu.

I agree with the others, get the downpipe first. I would also replace the AST with a new stocker or an aluminum one from Pettit, Rotary Performance, etc.

BOV is also a waste of money from a performance standpoint, especially since the stock is plenty loud if you vent it to atmosphere.

I would also point out that the Apexi intake will likely prevent upgrading your IC in the future if you plan to do so.

Dude, you live in Jamestown, NY? I used to travel up there to play hockey when I was a kid living in Erie, PA. We played on a rink that had a roof, and no sides, so we always froze our nuts off!!

On to your mods questions. Downpipe should always be your first mod, followed by the gauges you mentioned. If you are looking for performance, I'd skip the new front bumper assembly and focus on a new ECU (Power FC), a hi-flow cat, intake, intercooler, and a cat-back. If you aren't that worried about so much performance and want to upgrade the cars exterior, then the 99 front end is awesome! If you replace the front end, I would also consider any coolant system upgrades you want to do, such as an aluminum AST and radiator (Koyo), since it will be easier to install them with the front end off. Good luck, and keep us posted on your progress!

thanks for the help guys. it's much appreciated. i wasn't going to go w/ the downpipe because of nys emissions but now that i see how important it is, i'll get one and then just go to some shady garage to have them inspect it. so do you think, downpipe, intake, boost and water temp. guages is sufficient or do you think i could sneek in an exhaust w/o having to upgrade ecu? if you think an ecu upgrade is necessary, w/ the exhaust, do you guys recommend one for someone who is just learning about the sevens? thanks again for your help.

Installing an intake, downpipe, and cat-back exhaust will allow too much air flow for the stock ecu to handle. With those mods, you will have to use a boost controller/manual boost control to restrict the boost to 10 psi or get an aftermarket ecu.

Also, if you get an exhaust, I recommend the Racing Beat or M2 exhaust. I personally think most of the cannister style exhausts sound like ***. But to each his own.

All good advice so far. I'm in a very similar situation right now. I bought my car early this year with just a Catback..I will be doing the downpipe and intake some time when I get the money in place and a boost controller unless I can get the PFC as well..

As far as gauges go..I recently installed the Defi-link Boost and Water temp gauges..they are great. They are 52 MM and I mounted them on the A-Pillar with the AutoMeter dual gauge pod.

Defi has the new D-Gauge gauges that look very similar to the stock RX7 dash gauges and light up the same color..but they are not the daisy chain system like the Defi-Link, which was the reason I got the Defi-link ones..
