Opinions about the 'Route I want to take on my FD3'

My current performance mods are: Intake (custom) & Exhaust (N1 single).
Ive seen numerous dynos showing that if the boost is kept at stock level (10psi) even if there are 3-6 basic mods done the A/F is stable (11.XX) Im thinking I will get a Boost Gauge to control the boost to 10psi and a J&S Knock Sensor thus passing up the usual Fuel Management Systems people do.
Then I will feel comfortable with adding the DP, IC and MP. What do you guys think about this? Does it seem rational and safe for someone who wants a quicker than stock daily driver?
*staying sequential and right now boost pattern is finally 10-8-10 with only 20k on the motor and radiator.

A boost gauge will NOT keep your boost down. You either need to port your wastegate or get restrictor plates inside your exhaust ...but then that would defete the effect of adding a MP, wouldn't it. Just save up and get an aftermarket ECU, because you'll need one with an IC, DP, MP, full exhaust and intake.

yea the mid pipe will need a ecu. your boost guage won't control your boost. and if your talking about using your foot to control the boost i say its crazy. there will be a time when you wont be looking at the boost guage and then boom.

you will need to buy boost controller and a ecu to run those mods safely if you run those mods on stock ecu you will most certainly blow your motor. Running a midpipe, downpipe,ic is not rational at all,you do the math new motor or ecu and boost controller.

I've seen people get away with 3 to 4 mods without an ecu keeping the boost at 10 psi. It's alot tougher with a MP - you need a restrictor in the exhaust as earlier mentioned or a pill but people have detonated even at 10 psi - just go out and get a pettit unlimited ecu off partstrader for $400-$500 and then you can do what you want. If you know anything about tuning or have a tuner nearby get a Power FC and tune it with datalogit and wideband - you can have a fairly reliable quick car even if you only want to run 10 psi. I'd get the ecu though.

i would say your crazy. i think that is the general opinion so far too.
another thing i am going to disagree with is kwickrx7's statement about being able to do whatever you want with a pettit computer. not going to happen. you will need an adjustable EMS like a PFC or Haltech to do "what you want"

OOPS. excuse the type in my original post.. I meant BOOST CONTROLLER not gauge. Im suprised most of you didnt understand what I meant.

Ok, I understand about the PFC and PFSECU, I was just thinking for mild bolt ons I could protect the car with a knocksensor and boost controller. But yeah, No need to take risks with an already volatile time bomb.
Ok, so I guess Ill keep looking to invest in a PowerFC soon.
thanks for the insight.
