One stupid yes or no question about a PFC

I am buying a laptop computer around the same time as my pfc, do I need to buy a commander if I am buying the datalogit?

You don't NEED to, but the commander is a lot less bulky to look during street driving than is a laptop. Also, your passengers are always going to have to carry around the lap top. In addition to a laptop, there's the datalogit box, and additional cables. Also, your car is 10x more likely to get broken into.

I don't personally do that much tuning, but I'm always checking boost on the last stretch, or the temp on hot days, etc. That's what the commander is for: readily accessable information.

No. You don't *NEED* it, but very few people lug around a lap top & all the extra ****. You'll get a cheaper price as a set, and just bitch about it later that you had to pay more when you realized you should have gotten the commander. Not tryin' to be a dick, but there's always a grey area when it comes to modding this car.

yes and no, the commander is easier to read, but yes, the datalogit reads out everything the commander does and then some

just two different displays

If you have the laptop setup, can't you take the laptop out of the car? I know they can't expect you to leave a laptop in your car, I mean, granted it would just easily slide into the glovebox, God knows how big that thing is lol.

Yes, you can remove the laptop at any time. Also though, the commander is a great "read on the fly" device. However, it doesn't offer half of what you can read and/or adjust from a laptop/datalogit perspective. I would recommend getting both. I know it's a good bit of extra money, but it will pay off in the long run. Just remember to not make that many adjustments from the Commander when you can just wait to get home and do it from your laptop. I would recommend just using the Commander as a reading gauge instead of reading and adjustment input device. Hope that helps some. Laterz.
