Oklahoma Shop? JDM swap on R1?

I'm finally in need of a motor and I've got almost no where to turn.
Are there any shops in the OK area?

Further more I've done research on tossing in a JDM replacement and all I've found is that i need to buy the motor ;x

The forums show little help when I dont know what I'm really looking for. Could someone point me in the right direction? I'm looking for a stock motor replacement on a 100% stock R1.

I'm thinking that the JDM version would give the car an extra/small gain in power but there is an EGR issue. or so i've read. any help would be great. :-P

The JDM engines are pretty much the same thing with the small difference in emissions, and of course the engine wiring harness is totally different. Not to mention that the quality of the engine you're getting is in question...it is, after all, just a junkyard engine. One that's sat for several months or years since it last ran, which we all know to be a no-no for rotary engines.

I suggest you take the money you'd apply toward the jspec engine and rebuild what you've got instead. This way you know what you've got, and it's got a warranty behind it too. You can take this opportunity to build it how you wish, perhaps with some port work or other upgrades.

That helps me to decide on keeping the usa-spec engine.

Thanks! ;]

I"m slightly confused... you are in need of a short block right?? If thats the case, the performance of 93 vs 2002 engine should be the same.. Mazda did not change anything on the short block itself.. Unless I'm forgetting something...

I bought an engine with 5+k miles 1997 short block that was sitting around for at least 3 years and when we table crank the engine, it started right up. The problem with engines sitting around is moisture. If all the ports are closed and especially stored indoor, the engine should be fine. I would make sure if you are buying any JDM or salvaged car engines, make sure to buy a long block.. Usually, due to all the attatched assessories, it will prevent from moisture entering the engine.

go to the regional forums and look for a rotary specialist in your area. DO NOT take it to a dealer unless you are looking to get spanked and have your car run like crap. there are a few rx7 guys in OK that can help you out with info. apneablue is one that comes to mind. good luck.

Ok shops .....

Hey bro!

I'm in Ok and most of my hard to get parts come from Menlo Mazda out in Ca. Contact Mike in parts 650-366-7400.
I called some Mazda house in the city and they were stupid high on parts, just little crap I needed. Called Mike and they arrived in 3 days at an awesom price. From the time he ordered them to my door maybe 6 7 days .

If you hear of any shops or rotary events in the Ok area let me know!

Later.

awesome... glad to see there are more than hicks jerking off in their trans am's in OK.

I'll give 'em a call, I'm planning on swapping the engine myself... so i ought to wait for a us-spec 13btt to 'drop & swap';

aside, the R1 has low compression and while trying to start the car today... the nextdoor idiot walks by (he doesn't even own a working car) says to me "sounds like the timing belt"... i looked up from the drivers seat thinking "its rotary, the engine without cams". kinda pisses me off when people offer their 'ford/chevy' advise.
