Okay, i just spoke to lance at LA motorsport....

Okay, i just spoke to lance at LA motorsport.

The car is montego blue, 400 miles on engine, but the car HAS been modified.

The modifications are as follows: turbo timer, downpipe, high flow cat, intake and exhaust. Lance said the worry could come with the new HKS/F stock mounted intercooler.

Lance admitted that the cars modifications may cause someone like mazda to get worried/ void it...

Now i am in love with the car, but the warranty is important - it is covered by rotary performance in tx, but i am going to be in LA, and am unsure of what to do.

Can you guys please advise me.... ASAP!!

generally it wont be covered because of the mods...

but if the adjuster or whomever has no knowledge of the car in general then you might luck out...that dont always come out either unless the repair is big...you have to have it worked out with the mechanic doing to work not to mention certain things too.

Which are the mods that cause the problems? if i returned it to stock, that would then change things...wouldn't it?

How much does a stock intercooler cost?

Question Coupla questions for ya

How much is he asking, and how many miles are on the car? Does it have engine management? That sucker sounds like it needs a Power FC pronto.

There are a boatload of FDs for sale in CA, and the warranty would appear to do you no good if you're not in texas. Unless this 7 is an insanely good deal, I say wait until you get here. Patience is a virtue (that I have almost none of ).

He is asking 15k, but i am going to make him an offer he cannot refuse

85,000 miles on car, 400 miles on new motor and new clutch.

i didn't ask about engine management - what do i need to ask about that, and i don't actually know what a power fc is....

He told me that the warranty is guarenteed NATIONWIDE...

I still need to see pictures, but am slowely getting worried about this now

I thought Lance had an agreement with RP and RP only. So you're saying that the car will be covered under warranty out in CA? By whom? A power fc replaces the stock ecu and allows you to tune spark timing and fuel delivery in regards to boost pressure and rpms in 20x20 resolution, among other things.

ok i will ask about the power fc.

I was just wondering, what is the safest minimum amount of boost to have...?

Well this is what he said - that the warranty is nationwide and will be covered by mazda and anywhere else...

how can i make sure of this? will i need him to fax the warranty or something?

what do you guys think??

I wouldn't worry too much about the warranty...Cavell just battled threw a claim and managed alright (bought threw LA motor)

15 seems alright but is it a 94??

Finally, I think since they are selling it, that the mods are covered under the warranty. Just double check. On your list of mods I would just make sure you have a good boost gauge and also like Rich said a PFC. The PFC is a engine management computer that can be tuned so you don't run too lean and pop the motor. The reason that everyone is mentioning it is that you have opened up both the intake and exhaust past what the stock ECU can safely handle...be safe and spend the extra and get a new ECU.

I would only check the car for oil leaks with the new rebuild, history of the turbos (also oil leaks and rebuild history), and engine compression numbers.

If all is good, go for it!!! Enjoy the car...it is still my favorite

Does the power fc allow me to manually switch the boost up and down when i am in the car?

It is a 93.

The engine is not rebuilt - it is a new one from mazda.

I will have to ask about the turbo's.

I will have to ask about the compression numbers and anything about leaks...i am in LA - i will have to take his word for it...

I may phone up the guys that lance used for the rebuild to ask about things in detail.

Can someone quickly tell me what happened with cavell? Did he buy it through lance and get it sorted out of state?

Can someone answer how much a stock intercooler is, and whether this will make the warranty valid?

I have still got to see pics, but at the moment i am leaning towards buying a 2001 mustang gt convertible for 15k that i saw at a dealer with 20,000 miles....it is just so much more reliable...

Sorry to hear about your liking for the mustang....I think everyone on the forum will tell you how much fun these cars are...but if not maintained well, your right it could be less reliable.

Search under his sn Cavellm, he blew 5 apex seals and had his car rebuilt by Gotham racing....under warranty. It is a beast now with the new BNRIII's!! It is a recent thread so search on the first page.

youe car, hopefully was rebuilt by RP here in Dallas and should be reliable. Like I said, just double check. If you get the chance just upgrade the ECU...there are many options and yes the PFC lets you change the boost on the fly...

Good luck!

Lightbulb News Flash

Mustangs and RX-7s aren't in the same league. Hell, they're not even in the same sport.

PM Cavellm, and I'm sure he can fill you in on the warranty claim.....

Nope, i am only keeping the car for a year, while i am at college at UCLA.

See my dillemna?

If i like the car a lot, i will keep it at my uncle's pad in LA for when i visit (i stay there 3 months a year on vacation).

The stang will just be more reliable without a worry, plus there is more space.

BUT, i LOVE rx7's, love the fact that they are rare - are respected, and will give me maximum pleasure and maximum *****

With very similar mods (you just need a power fc and ported motor) at 15 psi I made 368 to the ground.....more than enough to waste most anything on the road

Without the ported motor and a more conservative 13 psi (and some good tuning), you should still be able to make ~330 to the ground, which is ~390 motor. All this in a 2800 pound car. You will *rule* the highway, my friend

Or you can get the 260 horsepower, 3600 pound Mustang.....it's your choice.

lol thanks, but no thanks for the stang.

What is the lowest amount of boost that the 7 can use whilest being safe?

I wanna keep it as reliable as possible.

Also, what compression should the engine have?

How much does a power fc cost with installation?

With the power fc you can run 13 psi all day, although you might have to upgrade your secondary fuel injectors.

There are a few ways to measure compression. You will get three #s per rotor (one per face) and you want them to be as close to each other as possible. Going off memory here, I believe the unit of measurement is kg/cm^2.....8 is very good, 7 is ok, 6 is a motor on the way out.

Power FC and Commander is ~1200 and it's basically plug and play so you can install it yourself.

hope this helps--
Rich

Yeah, but it does a while bunch. For one thing it allows you to monitor boost and coolant temps (among other things), saving you money you would've spent on the gauges. It allows your car to be fine tuned to get the most performance out of it, and also allows troubleshooting if any of your sensors die on you. Trust me, it's worth every penny, and I don't exactly have money to toss around
