Unhappy OK Rotorheads..Help me with this prob.

Yesterday I was cruising the back roads in about 95 degree weather and everything was running fine. I went to pass an RV, floored it and all of a sudden the engine sputtered and hesitated and I couldn't make boost. I could maintain speeds at 60 but you could hear the engine was running rough. Coolant temperature was fine, oil pressure was fine. When stopped the engine idle was very rough and irregular and I noticed occassional black smoke out the exhaust and some backfiring. Limped it home and did a quick visual, didn't see any obvious vacuum hoses off(they are zip-tied). I thought maybe a spark plug boot came off, but they checked out OK. I have 74K on the original motor, recently had a compression test which had strong numbers. So what do you all think is going on? Any and all feedback is appreciated.

this sounds like the map sensor hose problem. check for a black box near the firewall driverside that says 'boost sensor' on it. It either isn't working or the hose underneath it popped off. Look for lose vacuum hoses etc. I hope that is it.

i strongly agree with with elmo, check that "boost sensor" hose on the firewall. get back if its not it.

Smile It's Fixed

Thanks for all the feedback! Yep, sure enough the vacuum hose was off the MAP sensor, even popped off with a zip tie! So I put it back on with a new zip tie and we are now back in business!! That's what I like about this forum, people like you help people like me and I learn so I hope to pass on my learnings to those who may benefit from them.
