Red face Is it ok that my oil pressure is at 0 when idling?

My oil pressure seems to go to 0 when I'm at a stoplight idiling?

Is this normal? If not, what could be the problems?

A lot of the stock gauges go to Zero at idle after warmed up. Don't worry about it, as long as it goes up while you are driving.

check your sending unit. it's probably about to **** the bed. it's not too expensive and easy to get to and replace. clean the connection first just to make sure that isn't the problem.

Question

If the oil pressure is "0psi" at idle, you have a big problem, if it just indicates 0 on the factory gauge, its most likely the sender - common problem. It happens to me quite often when I get close to 3K miles on my oil and time for a change. If when the engine is cold you get a high indication which drops as the engine warms up, you are probabley ok. Oil pressure is measured at 3000rpm usually where it should be within factory spec of 3.5kgf/cmsq. (up here in Canada) or 50psi for you down there. No cheap fix for sender, I just make sure mine always comes up at 3000rpm.

It's 0 when I hit the stop sign and I'm idling...Then when I accelerate, it goes back to normal...whatever you want to define as that.....Only when I hit the stop sign is when it is 0....

This is still the sending unit?

Yes, the sending unit. The gauge shouldn't hit 0 if the car is running.

if your gauge hits 0 your motor won't be idling

Is the sensor the oil switch or is it on the OMP?

I have the same thing. 0 at idle and 3.5 and up when I am driving. I find the needle on the gauge is very steppy.

ok....... looks like the question was answered.

i will have to note that mines work good after 230k miles.

may i was lucky, but then again perhaps using Redline kept the "stuff" free of varnish and clean.
