Ok guys I just raced with a T-78 single turbo Supra

Just got my car back less than a week from KD rotary and about 400 miles during the break in. I took my car out for a cruise at Delaware Ave. Where all the illegal street racing is. I met a Supra
at the gathering and I pulled up to talk to him. He show me his motor and I show him mine. We both have the Greddy T-78 kit. Afterward, we agreed to race. His car was set at 1 bar which is 14.5psi I think and my car was set at 10psi for the break in. At the roll, I lead him by half a car length and by second gear I lead him by a car length but he caught up to me eventually and begin to pull away from me. But he didn't lead me by that much. We are scheduling for another race when I turn up the boost and my engine to break in further. He said that he will upgrade the fuel system and turn up the boost to 18psi. You guys think that I will have a good chance at 15psi. Damm Supra high ends is really amazing.

cool... 18 isnt THAT much more than 14.5,

but why dont you race at equal boost levels

you could prolly take him!

problem with supras is that they can just
keep bumping that boost up to insane levels,
like the 20's, course they dont get as much out of
each pound i think

oh well,
btw, might not be a good idea to race it until like 1 -1.5k miles
on that engine

at higher speeds it's all about hp and aerodynamics (because of the nature of rolling resistance), so the power to weight advantage will not help you, the Supra will win every time once you get above 70....e.g. with a 45 to 120 roll you're dead in the water

thankfully, there is more to life that the drag strip....one dimensional

Not true at all. Yes drag plays an increasing role with speed but that doesn't favor either car. Power to weight is always a factor.

but hp favors the Supra

again, the weight difference between an FD and a Supra becomes insignificant at higher speeds, and hp/aerodynamics dominate...this is Physics 101, Rolling Resistance

cracks me up how many times I have heard ignorant people on this forum claim an FD with, say, 425 hp, will run down a 600-700 hp Supra on a freeway roll...such people are just out of touch with reality

rolling resistance [is] caused by friction between the rubber and road surface as the wheels roll along and friction in the axles, etc.etc.. We'll approximate this with a force that's proportional to the velocity using another constant.

Frr = - Crr * v
where Crr is a constant and v is the velocity vector.

At low speeds the rolling resistance is the main resistance force, at high speeds the drag takes over in magnitude. At approx. 100 km/h (60 mph, 30 m/s) they are equal. This means Crr must be approximately 30 times the value of Cdrag

The total longtitudinal force is the vector sum of these three forces.

Flong = Ftraction + Fdrag + Frr

I'm glad to hear they aren't that insane with a T-78...there is a local kid here that just got one done and it would kill me to think his car is faster than mine haha. I'm not really a very big fan of his

THe supra is only running 15psi? Thats low boost for him, and your running low boost too, but your motor is being broken in.

Once he runs 20+psi your not going to touch him on big hwy runs, pump gas for pump gas.

Don't quote me about this but most supra guys that I see actually stick around 18lbs. haha thats probably like the cutoff with their stock fuel system or something...rediculous
