Unhappy OK to drive with turbo leaking oil?

My secondary is leaking oil. I figured it was the back pressure and the heat but don know for sure. Anyhow, I tried to get a DP to prolong the turbo life but now it will be weeks before I settle this bullsip with Corksport.

The transmission just went on my Honda (towed it home today), so i'm forced to put the stupid precat back on my RX-7 and drive it daily. The leaking oil makes me very nervous but I don't know what else to do.

my 2nd turbo is leaking oil. I don't have money to fix it. I don't have money for a new tranny on the Honda either. I am about to put the precat back on, so I will probably take the day off from work.

You'll have to keep a wary eye on your oil levels and your engine temp. I've been doing so for about a month now ... ordered some '99 spec turbos and they sent the RB model, so I had to wait an extra 2 weeks to get the RS/RZ model turbos. The worst part is dealing with the smoke. Eventually, the leak is going to get very bad; on cold starts, the car will smoke A CRAPLOAD. I burn off a quart of oil every 200 miles or so ...

Also, your plugs will get fouled. So, be wary of excessive cranking. If you can, I'd put the turbo fix/replace on your credit card ... I know it sucks owing money like that, but it's better than having to save for a new engine.

Car isn't smoking yet. Not loosing much oil. Right now it's a small drip. I was hoping the DP would fix it or at least keep it from getting worse. Can't charge new ones.

Lost my O2 sensor wire (broke off O2). Will the car run without it connected?

it could be a leaky oil return line.

about the O2 sensor thing, I haven't ran an O2 sensor since I got my car (not necessarily by choice, bad hesitaion when it is attached). it runs a little rich, but still gets ~22mpg on the highway. I'm hoping I can find out what the problem is this winter.

Thanks dontbeRikki,
I found the wire under the car but I couldn't solder it back on. There wasn't any wire sticking out of the O2 sensor to solder it to. This sucks.

Let's see.
Oil dripping on hot pipe....smoking not much ...well maybe a little....hmmm what in the world could happen

Good advice to carry a fire extinguisher, I carry one on board now----a little late (see sig). I will be adding the halon unit as soon as the money is available.

Do yourself a bid favor....fix the leak

My choices are take two weeks vacation days untill jackass Corksport sends me a new DP. Install old precat - tried that too freakin heavy to lift!

Ack, I have no choices. I can't afford a new transmission in my Honda. WIll have to tow my 7 to the race shop. Will have to drive with scewed up leaking turbos. Broke, in debt, 2 broken cars, hey who wants to help me celebrate my bday next week?

Motor oil does does not ignite very easily unless you hit it with an acetylene torch. Maybe it might ignite or the scalding oil may ignite a rubber hose if left idling for a long time with a steady cook, but we've seen old V-8's with valve cover gaskets, pan, and front cover oil leaks and they never catch fire. My FD seeps at the front turbo oil return line banjo bolt. You can't really smell anything unless it's parked in the garage and the athlete starts to "sweat" on the floor.

I've got exactly 2 years on leaking turbos at 14psi. Just keep checking the oil and you'll be fine.

No replies in general autoomotive thread

2nd gen Honda CRX question:

Does this sound like the transmission or throw out bearing? When I got to work and began to park I noticed smoke coming in from the shifter and radio area. When I went to lunch I drove i 1st, 2nd, then couldn't get in to 3rd. No gears after that, not even reverse.

I tried to drive it again today and was able to get into reverse. So I drove backwards around the block in to my garage.

Its probably not your transmission. It could be something stupid like a bad slave/master cylinder, but this would not explain the smoke. It sounds like your clutch is not disengaging. Can you get it into gear with the engine off?

Paw140 -> I just tried and after a few min I could force 2nd,4th & Reverse with the engine cold and off on the Honda.

On the Mazda, I got the precat back on. I purchased 2 stands and a 2ton mini jack at Harbor Frieght tools for $40 total. THe trick on the precat was using two hands pulling forward like a reverse curl.

There's a exhaust leak but should fix that in the morning.
