I mounted my water temp sender in the plug next to the filler cap, but if you don't have an air pump, there's a better plug on the pass side of the thermo housing. Or you could tap it yourself. Do a search there are a few threads about good mounting points for the water temp gauge.

I don't have an oil temp gauge, sorry no help there, but again a quick search should yield some results.

I've got the greddy filter adapter which has fittings for oil pressure and temp. I have tapped into the water filler neck housing for that temp. I believe the stock temp sending unit is in the same place (just below where you'd tap into).

You can see the brass connection just above the black one.

My VDO oil temp gauge is hooked up to a sender that replaces the oil drain plug. Just remove the old drain plug, and replace it with the VDO unit. Then run a wire to it with a spade connector. Very easy, and works very well.

I installed my Oil temp sensor in one of fc3s.org's custom oil filter pedistals and my oil pressure & water temp sensors in the stock locations (in the rear iron under the oil filter). My temp gauges are mounted in place of the stock gauges in the instrument panel.

The stock sensors in the thermostst housing are the Fan temp switch and the thermosensor for the ecu & are not related the water temp gauge.
