Question about Single or Twin Turbo
Hi all,
I'm looking for a 93/94 RX7 right now as a summer car that I intend to take to a few track events each year. I'm really looking for a stock car that I can start from square one on and I think I've found one.
My background in cars really comes from Mustangs so I'll be the first to admit I'm new to turbos but that's 1/2 of what interests me so much about finding an RX7, learning something new.
My questions is .. during my search for my elusive RX7 I've noticed that a lot of the highly mod'd RX7's I've come across have been converted to single turbo instead of staying with the twin. Why? Performance? Cost ? Help..and this is my first post here on the these boards...be gentle

However, upgrades for twin turbos are few and expensive. If you are looking for BIG power, you'll get it done easier and cheaper with a larger single turbo. However, if good low end response is what you are after, their are upgrades for stock twins that will do it as well as some smaller single turbos which can offer about the same performance.
It really all comes down to what you do with the car as to how to modify it.

i hope you know your getting yourself into a completely new animal. Have fun with it.
Single turbo is the way to go if you want big high end power, compared to the low end response and power that the twins give you.

also check the autox rules and regs if you want to run competitively.
switching to a single will put you into a different class. whether or not that is important to you is another story.

The TWINS are bunch of complicated and bug prone set up.
Granted you can get upgraded twins and do this and that.
but its still under powered and still prone to all the BS that can happen
from transition spikes, and boost creeps. vacuum this and that pressure this
and that head aches..and all the SMOKE this and that..
Junk the twin set up and go for the SINGLE..
the SINGLE turbo set ups. Simpler, cleaner and alot more power.
Dont let all these cry babies get to you. about the LAG.
Lag this and lag that.. Those are for the girlie mans that like to race
and start their RPMS at like 2KRPMS and expect to do something.
IMO get the SINGLE, hand down
