Oil Questions

I have a few questions about oil. In the owners manual it says that you should not run synthetic oil but I have seen that a few of you do; why does the owners manual say not to? Also I have noticed that there is a considerable abount of gas in my oil; is this normal or something I should be concerned about? Thanks for the help.

Please search the forums for this, as there are already a number of oil threads.

Did you even read my question? I have seen the oil threads and found the answer to the first question, but I still do not know if gas in my oil is normal.

I dont have an answer for you, but for the guy above "why bother with the time it takes to reply if you are not even going to help.. if all you are going to write is to tell the guy to search the forum then why even bother at all.

long time ago synthetic oil had detergents in them that ate away at apexi seals . now that detergent is rarely or not added into synthetic oils anymore. i dont run synthetic i run castrol GTX,but if i did i would run Eneos oil because its polarized. Pretty much adhering to engine parts.

hope this helped at all

As for the gas-in-the-oil question, I noticed a LOT of fuel dilution with my old engine, not near as much with the new one. I'd suspect leaky injectors and overall engine wear contribute to allowing fuel dilution of the oil. One reason why I always change oil around 2,000 miles, or 6 months...whichever comes first.
This is also a good reason to just use quality dino oil. Castrol, Valvoline, Mobil, Quaker State...basically anything BUT Penzoil.

hopefully i am not just repeating someone elses answer but older syntheics burned horribly it was bad for the engine. newer synths burn better so you can run them. that said i wouldn't run any synth that isnt a rotary synth. I beileve idimetsu rotary racing is the best synth on the market its what the mazda race team runs and its all my car has ever run sense it was born in 92.

as far as gas in your oil. I have never experienced it and am willing to bet its a bad sign like oil in the coolant.

My experience has been it seems to really trap water/condensate. My dad was a big Penzoil fan for years until my brother and I started driving. I had a Chevelle and my brother a Monte Carlo, my dad had a 396 powered Caprice and a 455 powered Buick LeSaber. At one time or another we had to replace hydraulic lifters in all these cars...strange. And every time we took a valve cover off, there would be this THICK, nasty yellow sludge built up inside the valve covers. Too often, too common to be coincidental.

We switched to Havoline and drove with no problems for years after that. Then when I got some money and put a high-rise and Carter AFB on my Chevelle, I noticed there was absolutely ZERO trace of that nasty yellow ****.
