oil pressure warning light comes on

hey guys, I did a search on it and I couldn't find anything...

sometimes when I go WOT, the needle climbs all the way to the top, and the red warning light comes on...

or sometimes i'll just be on the freeway in 5th and it would come on for no particular reason...

anyone know why?

mike

perhaps you should check your oil level?

Yes rotaries essentially eat oil

rotaries inject oil.

but not enough to cause your dummy level light to come on.

got to love idiot lights. I would check the oil. If it's full then you may have a bad sending unit. It is in the worst possible place. When you change the filter and dont put a rag under the filter right away it drips all over the sending unit. I have had to replace mine twice.

Yes our cars inject oil into the combustion chamber for lube

do you have single turbo? if so, do you have an oil catch can? is it full? this in addition with the normally oil consumed by a rotary will be the cause of your light comming on

add oil!!!

The light in the oil pressure gauge is a low oil level warning, and has nothing to do with pressure or the pressure sensor. Check the oil level. If it is low, fill it up. If the level is fine, you have a problem with the oil level sensor.

Hi guys, I hope you'll help me in this.

My oil level gauge is acting weird, sometimes it goes to below 4 (kg/cm3) and just now after i drove back from work (about 5km). the oil level gauge just went down but the oil level warning light didn't come on.
I haven't checked the oil level yet coz I'm just too sleepy (nightshift), going to check it out tonight. Planning to go for service next week after the weekend too.

An another issue, after i switched the engine on (turbo timer went for a minute and the fan as well) I started to hear this wooshing sound and this sound like water boiling. I know it sounds funny but I just can't explain it in any better words (also in the fact that I'm dead sleepy). Is that normal in an FD since the excessive heat the engine produced?

The car is pretty much standard with the typical noobs mods, no intercooler/radiator, no AST yet. And I didn't pull her hard on the way home either.

Can you guys help me with this?

Thanks in advance

Yans

Yans,
1. Not unusual for your oil pressure guage to give unusually low readings @ idle. Clean the contact for your sending unit, just below the oil filter pedestal (at least on left hand drive models) or possibly change the sender. And make sure your running the proper weight oil for the season (summer in Australia?).

2. "wooshing" sound...must be more specific. Boiling and gurgling sounds after turning off the engine isn't uncommon either. You probably have air in the system. After it cools down completely, fill at the thermostat housing and AST. Repeat as necessary until it quits.

3. Check the stickies at the top of the 3rd gen. section for more answers to common questions. Use the search feature and post your own thread if you need some help....

thx Sgtblue.
I did use the search feature, that's why i tried not to fill up another junk in this forum by opening another thread. But nothing came across my problem.

As for the oil level, I'm going to manually check it soon. But the thing that happened was, I was on the way home and when i got to in front of my garage, I came out of the car to open the garage, and once i got inside the car, i saw the oil level was empty, more like if you turn off the engine.

Thanks again,

Yans

and oh, yeah it's summer here but Australia has the weirdest season in the world. It's summer but the rain still fall and sometimes it goes to 20 degree celcius cold.

Just so everyone is clear about what the gauge needle and warning light indicate:
1. The oil gauge needle indicates oil pressure, which has nothing to do with the oil level. *
2. The light comes on when the level is low. which has nothing to do with pressure.

-Max

* Unless the level is so low that your oil pump pickup tube sucks air from the level being way too low.
