Does anyone know for sure if the ECU (or PowerFC) care about the oil pressure information?

I'm replacing the actual stock gauge with a Defi oil pressure gauge and I'd rather use the stock location for the sender. I don't think the ECU does, as there are quite a few people with faulty senders reading 0 with no effects that I've heard of.

The ecu doesn't care, AFAIK, the sender only goes to the gauge. I know many people have done exactly what you are proposing with no issues.

Another option is to use the Greddy oil filter block adapter, which gives you plugs for temp and pressure. There are pros and cons to using it, you can do a search under my username for my comments on it.

Don't know, as the Defi has a two wire sender and the stock is a single wire.

 

I replaced the stock OP sensor with an aftermarket one and havne't had any trouble. I'm running a PowerFC, too, but I don't think that matters -- I don't think the stock ECU cares about oil pressure, either.

Why not just use a brass tee assembly and have the enjoyment of both worlds?

I used the SPA sensor that came with my gauge. It threads right into the stock hole (well, really the stock extender thing).

I don't have a stock gauge (see below), and it might be difficult to fit both the stock and an aftermarket sensor in that area, so keeping the stock sensor would have no advantage (and maybe some disadvantages) for me.

I have heard about some people investigating the possibility of using an aftermarket sensor with the stock gauge, but last I heard no one had found a suitable aftermarket sensor. It is certainly possible in theory, but I guess finding an aftermarket sensor that gives a signal that the stock gauge can understand has proven to be difficult. I don't think anyone has found one yet.
