Oil pressure issue

Oil pressure issue
My oil pressure has been falling to around 40psi with higher RPM (above 3k) while being around 60psi at idle. It happened suddenly while driving normally on a freeway, so I narrowed the issue down to leaky oil passage way between the front cover & front housing. I finally got the front cover off this morning, and it turns out I have a metal gasket & just Teflon ring without o-ring sitting there. It all looks perfect. I'm going to assemble it only with Teflon ring without the metal gasket, but what else can it be? Is there anything I can check while the engine is down?

With the metal front cover gasket, you DO NOT use the O-ring OR the teflon spacer.
If you have a bad front cover O-ring, you'll have bad oil pressure all the time. I know this from personal experience on my FC. I had like 15psi at idle, should be 30.
If the front iron and the front cover are clean and flat, the metal front cover gasket seals up perfectly. No RTV or anything.
Might be worth pulling the oil pump (it's right there) and check it.
Oil pressure problems are uncommon, and since you have a custom setup and a 20b you may be in for a good amount of work to figure out what's up.

thanks Dale.
Mazdatrix advised I only use Teflon ring and no gasket at all. it looks like it'll work. Metal surfaces are otherwise very clean. will that be alright?
I'll check the oil pump too, but I'm hoping it's my oil pan sump issue. I had oil pan custom made, but those hinges are stuck with the floor of the pan. I had to take subframe down slightly one day to take my transmission off and was holding up the engine by the pan, so it must have caved in making contact with the hinge baffles.
I am also premixing, so I'll be taking out the metering gear & plug up the hole at the front cover with JB.
if there's anything else I could check with the engine down, please let me know! thanks!

Remove oil pump
Look at it
You may also want to look at the pickup tube and check for cracks.
