oil pressure guage

would that be a good way to see if the OMP is working correctly? If so, where do you hook it up to see that? And what type of range do we need? In other words, what is the usual working pressure.

thanks a lot

IIRC, just pull off the hose coming off the OMP, run the car at idle, and after a few seconds you should see drops of oil coming out every few seconds.

Pressures vary dependant on if the e-shaft wax pellet has been removed by the engine builder or not. A stock motor with the pellet will vary during cold start. Usually rising upwards to 80 or 90 psi at startup, possibly higher depending on if the aws engages(temp dependant) If the wax pellet has been removed and the motor was rebuilt the pressure(oil) will stay about 65-80psi at cruise at 3000rpm. Under load and rising rpm the oil pressure may peak at 100psi or higher. In a stock motor(or rebuilt with the pellet intact)the pressure at cruise at 3000rpm should read about 55-60psi according to the mazda manual. When the pellet is cold it restricts flow to the e-shaft and the main bearings and the pressure will be higher, but as the oil warms the pellet, it acts like an opening thermostat and opens up allowing oil flow to the rotor bearings and the eshaft.

The omp operates at a different pressure than the oiling system. The omp is designed to slowly dribble oil into the top intake portion of the rotor housings in order to help lube the apex seals. You can monitor oil pressure onthe stock gauge or if it's not working you probably need a new sending unit. You can also use an aftermarket gauge for pressure if you wish, I added an oil temp gauge since my sending unit works most of the time. I drilled out and tapped the banjo bolt on the oil filter tower. This is relatively easy and makes for a clean routing of wires and associated items. I believe any aftermarket co. will make a oil pressure gauge or just a generic pressure gauge will work as long as it goes up to 100psi or so. I hope this info proves useful. If not please clarify what pressure you are referring to so that I can help further.

ok now i understand.

so finally, there si no way to know from the cockpit if the OMP is working properly. I want to make it clear, i don't have a problem with my car but i want to put some usefull guages that will tell me if it is going bad. I relocated my A/C so i have space for guages. Better prevent and it also looks cool

I know what bad oil pressure could do but what could be the cause for a lost of oil pressure? Also, what does the oil pressure temp will tell you? I want to put those guages but i want to know what they will tell me and what i should do with this reading.

You seem to know what you are talking about, please keep me updated, i want to learn as much as possible about the oil system.

thanks a lot
