oil pressure gauge

ok, the factory oil pressure gauge doesnt read acurate due to bad sending unit(most fd's). What makes the sending unit go bad?? cold start?? Well, is there a fix to this problem or not. I thought about buying a aftermarket oil press gauge but agian, its not the guage its the sending unit.
I dont want to run a any mech gauges inside the car for safety reasons.

There is a spring that wears on the end and gets weak. The spring wears out the metal where it hooks on.
