How hard is oil pedestal install for plx multigauge?
Hey gang!
I'm looking to install a plx multigauge that reads AFR, oil pressure and oil temp. After lots of research I found that most people have filter issues with an oil sandwich plate and end up going with an oil pedestal.
Can I get some feedback on how difficult it is to install an oil pedestal? My 94 FD is stock and there's not much room in there to remove the stock pedestal. To me it looks like most people install a new pedestal when rebuilding the engine. This is my first FD and would like some information from the more experience members on the forum.
Also, if anyone is running a plx fluid pressure sensor I would like to know if it fits with an oil pedestal because the sensor looks quite chunky on the plx website.
Any advice would be appreciated!
Thanks.
Mike

I looked around for a lot of different options as well, what worked well for me was the ProSport sandwich plate as I went with their gagues and sensors.
It doesn't leave a lot of room to remove the filter, but a leather strapped filter removal tool can get in there to loosen it up.
Removing the pedestal if you want to go that way can be done in the car, it's a but of a stretch to get the nuts off to remove it. If you're going to change the pedestal, also replace the o-rings while you're in there.
I have a replacement oil pedestal from Banzai Racing, I'm happy with it. It included new o-rings to replace the old ones mentioned above. I used an NPT tap to expand the holes for a bit more thread engagement on the sensors I used, but it probably would have been OK without doing that. The install isn't too difficult but it is time consuming. I removed the intake pipe and throttle and maybe one of the ignition coils to get more room to work with. You need an uncommon socket size to remove the banjo bolt, more info here: https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generati...wrong-1095912/
Good idea to get some high-temperature thread sealant from the parts store, I used Permatex High Temperature Thread Sealant from the auto parts store. It's only been a few months but it has worked well so far.

Thanks for the pictures! I haven't considered prosport but I'll look into them.

Thanks for the link and tips! I didn't know about the weird banjo size. Will look into that as well.
