Oil Pan R&R

I've searched on this, but none of the threads contain details I am looking for.

My oil pan is leaking again, and I thinking about doing the R&R myself this time.

Several threads mention that placing a jack or jack stand under the transmission is sufficient to hold the engine in place while the subframe is removed.

While I'm sure the bolts mounting the motor to the tranny aren't a problem, what is keeping the whole assembly in place, other than the jack stand?

If you haven't guessed, my concerns are for safety - I don't want to drop anything on my head.

Please don't tell me how to do this without removing the subframe. My FD has a Ground Zero oil pan, and removing the subframe is the only way to get it out.

Why couldn't you just use an engine hoist to hold it up?

The PPF will be holding it in place along with the jack stand

You can tie the hoist point to the strut-tower brace for easy insurance.

Yeah, I had considered that. Seems like a good idea.

BTW, I spoke to Rob Golden at Pineapple Racing, and his reply to my question about placing a jack under the tranny was that it would work just fine.
