Oil Pan Gasket Replacement

I need some information about pulling the oil pan on an FD. It looks to me that either the motor has to come out or and front end needs to get dropped, and neither option is too appealing with the resources I have. I'll bite the bullet and pull the motor if that's the only way, but only if absolutely necessary. My search didn't turn up anything useful, so if anyone has experience doing this, please share so I know for sure what I am in for. Thanks.

you might want to try look in the archives for oilpan replacement info or that rx7 world of thunder webpage has a write up on how to do it. You odn't have to pull the engine, but you will need something to hoist it up a little after unbolting the motor mounts. then after that all you need to do is loosen the subframe and the pan should be able to easily be accessed.

Not a fun job at all... I had to do mine2 years ago, I just losened all the motor mounts from the bottom, threw my hoist on, then removed the bottom bolt for the motor mounts all the way and lifted the motor as much as possible without damaging anything as I didn't take much off, I can't remember exactly all I had to remove to get to that point but I was able to get it high enough to remove the pass side motor mount and get the oil pan off, I remember the front oil pan bolts were a real pain like that but at least I didnt have to pull the whole motor and harness and everything. I think it was ALLOT easier than taking it all the way out.

If you do decide to drop the front crossmember be sure to scratch alignment marks along the frame before you loosen the bolts. That way you can re-assemble with minimal alignment issues. You'll still need to take it to a shop, but it won't be so far out of spec.
