Oil In A Odd Place

I had removed my Turbos to have them sent to Brian at BNR for the stage 3 treatment. I removed the turbo's and manifold and when I pulled off the two metal gaskets around the exhaust port I noticed two holes about the size of a dime under the exhaust port. On the front housing one of those smaller holes had very black, nasty, melly oil dripping out of it. This was ofcourse after I had drained the oil and coolant from the car. I was wondering if anyone knew if it was normal or something is wrong. Please let me know if anyone has encountered this before.

Were the turbos bad in any way? Smoking, making noise, etc.?

no the turbos are fine. The hole is on the block side of the gasket and blocked off by the gasket.

I think that hole is for the EGR system or for the air injection system. Might just be crud that collected there. Are you sure it's wet, and not dry carbon buildup?

behind the metal gasket there where two smaller holes. One was full of dry crud from the egr system however the other that got sealed by the gasket due to the gasket not having a hole had the oil sludge behind it.

I want to expand on the same question, as I pulled my first FD engine last night and had the same experience. It is an 8,000 mile factory reman with original turbos (which are only good for cores at this point). Looking at the exhaust ports from left to right underneath them, there are 4 holes. The left (rear) most is the one for the EGR that goes to the tube in the manifold. The one to the right of that was sealed by the gasket and crudded up. The one to the right of that was clean (so to speak). All three of these are connected to each other and to the inside of the exhaust port somewhere. I verified this with aluminum tape over the ports, a hose to blow in, and thumbs to seal the other holes. Now. The far right (front of car) port is not connected to any of these. In fact, when I blow in it, it is completely sealed off. When I removed the gasket, a good amount of "oil" spilled from this hole. Say 1/4 cup or so. It looked like old oil, but it was runnier and had a funny smell. I was concerned a little because I do not know WTF it is. I plan on putting this engine in my project car as-is. Does anyone have any further knowledge on this?
