Oil metering pump.

I have been having odd oil presure the last few days. One minute it wil be fine the next it will be down to 10-15, the next it will come back up to 50-60 ( all on the stock gauge). Normaly it sits at around 50-60. Today my car all the sudden goes it to limp mode about 2 blocks from my house and throws a check engine light. I run the light and it says 27 - oil metering pump. So Im pretty sure I need a new one.

Now these are very expensive.Any one have a used one for a decent price?let me know what you think. thanks

check for parts at 3rd gen parts section. There are forum members selling stock parts. I've bought one used for $40 shipped off of one of forum member.

You need to go through the service manual and go through the troubleshooting steps to determine the actual problem. Replacing the OMP is no trivial task, and a new one is over $1400 from Mazda.

What you are seeing is the oil sending unit going bad. Just replace it, they go bad frequently.
Your oil metering pump doesn't have a stock gauge. I think you are confusing the two.

Mop

I found out the MOP had failed on my car last week i ordered a used part from a local specialist and fitted it in under 4 hours. This included removing the engine undertray which I realised I didnt have to do which took over an hour because everything was stiff and horrible!

I had never touched one of these engines before and had no instructions.

All the job can be done from above and basically involves removing the intercooler, airbox, alternator, airpump, waterpump aproximately in that order. Then with a very short 10mm spanner you can get all 3 of the bolts that hold it in quite easily. Someone with reasonable ability could do it in 3 hours.
