Oil Meter Failing/Speedometer Change

Hi,

I'm hoping someone can help me. There's something wrong with my Oil meter, sometimes it doesn't move at all sometimes it does, sometimes it moves but looks like it "sticky" moving with sudden jerks when i accelerate.

Also the warning light seems to turn on and off when it feels like it.
Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this?

Also The speedometer and odometer on my car is in km/h. The speedo has been made to read in mph though, (which means the speed dial makes it look like my car is capable of 300 mph).

How would i go about converting this? Is it as simple as just changing the speedometer to a normal mph one? also is the odometer part of the speedo?

Sorry for sounding stupid but well, when it comes to this stuff...I am =) only had my car a couple months. gotta ask to learn though right?

Any help/tips would be great!

Michael

Check your oil level.

Fluctuating gauge is common
Oil sending unit located under the oil filter pedestal (looks like a fuel filter covered with a black rubber cover stick out from the side of the engine)sends the pressure signal to the gauge. often with mileage or dirty connection they begin to fail.

As far as the oil indicator light it could be any of the following
Insufficent oil
Malufunction of the oil level sensor
malfunction of electrical system.

My bet is on the oil level sensor.

As far as the speedo I am uncertain what you would need to do.

If you haven't yet, download the service manual from the sticky at the top of the third gen section and go to page D-5

Good luck.
