Hoping someone might be able to help me out. White smoke is coming from under hood on passenger side after driving for any length of time.
When i lift hood after driving smoke is coming from circled area on pictures attached. One time a small flame ignited then went out.
Had oil changed at a quick lube last time and wondering if they overfilled? Any thoughts would be appreciated!
Looks like you are pointing to the pre-catalytic converter, which gets super hot and can easily ignite any oil that spills on it. Either the turbos themselves are pushing oil or one of the oil lines feeding them is. Pull off the piping and look. I would not recommend driving it further until you fix the leak.
Also possible if they slopped the oil in when filling that it went down the PCV tube to the primary turbo inlet. It then gets sucked up through the primary turbo and drips from the Y-pipe. Been there, done that.
I always use a funnel when filling the oil, if you just dump the oil in from the oil container you can run into this.
May want to remove some of the intake hoses and get a better look around and see if you can see any streaking or staining from oil. The oil feed lines to the turbos are pretty hardy, I don't think I've ever seen them leak.
Exactly the same as mine before my rebuild. Oil was leaking from the turbos onto the exhaust, burning off once the engine/exhaust reached temperature, and creating big scary wisps of smoke from under the hood. Immediately after that I bought a portable fire extinguisher to always keep in the car.
I replaced my stock turbos as part of my rebuild since the housings had small cracks too. $$$
I got the exact same smoke issue. My turbo lines leak AND the turbos are spitting oil through the intake tract. Im replacing them with low mile OEMs but im worried its going to be a pain.
