It is not an easy job, and there are no tricks. Everything has to come off the front of the engine to get to it. Many say you will need to remove/reseal the oil pan at the same time. If the engine installation is under warranty, I would take it back, and have them fix it.

You are looking at a tough job. I take it you have not dove deep into a 13b before? In this case you must remove the Eccentric shaft bolt. And if you do not do it exactly the way the procedure spells out, then you could destroy your engine or go thru another costly breakdown in the very least. You'd better research this throughly. Also during the repair, you should get the JDM metal cover gasket. The domestic paper gasket will not hold up.

Good luck

I recommend to people to try to do as much as you can on this car on your own. However, this is something that is better left to a professional or someone who has a whole lot of mechanical experience.

Then you can probably do this. Its especially nice that you have a hoist. Be sure to follow the intructions carefully, especially about the eccentric shaft. You will likely need a torch to remove the end bolt.

We see this a lot on Mazda remans, typically it blows out between the 3rd and 4th bolts on the p-side of the engine. This causes oil to spray out on to the turbos and manifold, making for a smoky mess. I think it may be caused by over-torquing the front cover bolts

One "trick" is to use the metal gasket, another is no gasket at all, just use RTV and install a larger S4 o-ring for the oil pump outlet and eliminate the nylon spacer. Be extra careful not to clog the OMP feed with RTV, we have seen this on a lot of DIY builds.

Sorry I mistyped, the S4 is smaller not larger. We have a larger viton o-ring that we use to eliminate the front cover gasket .
