Question Oil cooler fan

I've been thinking about putting a fan on my single oil cooler until I can get upgraded ones. I thought about getting a 7" or 8" puller type (400cfm) and putting it behind the cooler.

Anybody else thought about doing this?
Would a pusher in front be better?
Is it a waste of time?
Pros and cons?

BTW I'm in Texas

hmm...

I have been thinking about it...

one that will run all the time...

In any rotary I like to have the oil nice and cooled.

Still needs to be at operating temperatures, but sometimes if I am on a tarred road the temps go up to much.

I also want to add a oil cooler fan I want to wire it to run when the cooling fans turn on just to keep temps in a stable range.I have measured the space available behind the oil coolers and there is not much room. The only small cooling fans I found are made by SPAL they make a 6in fan that would be a perfect fit but its over 3in thick so it wont fit. There is a 7 in fan slightly too large for the oil cooler but only 2 inch thick this might be a tight fit though.

The specific one I was thinking about is Summit's part number DER-16507, 7" wide, 400cfm, and 2.55" thick. Smallest one I could find.

So no one else has thought about or done this before? In that case I'm gonna do it and take some before and after oil temp readings.

Could work

That could work though I think it would be most effective in traffic. I'd bet shortly after you start moving the fan is being pushed by the air flow.

Another approach would be to spray water in it from the washer bottle tank. I will be installing this on my IC. I think it will be pretty effective . I bougt the IC mist controller. The instructions describe an application for as an oil cooler mister. They said they would be making a dedicated controller for oil coolers soon. The controller was under $100 bucks and the brass spray nozzle was about $50.

The summit 7 inch fan might be too thick at 2.55, the Spal 6.5 inch is only 2.05 inch in depth 7.24 H by 7.03 W but it will over lap the oil cooler by about a inch. The ideal would be the 5.6 Spal fan at 5.91 H by 5.91 W but its 3.86 in depth so it wont fit.

Just a thought, I used to have the radiator fan from a 97 yzf 600 (motorcycle) mounted to the back of my stock intercooler. The fan was only $25 bucks used. I will be using it to pull air through the oil cooler soon. Some rough measurments, 6 inch diameter, 2.5 inch height. I would see if you can locate a motorcyle salvage yard and check out their fan selection.

Has anyone explored the possibility of using a PC case fan? Antec has a 120mm fan at: http://www.antec-inc.com/f_case.html. Wonder if it would handle the heat? The specsheet says it is 12v and runs at 105cfm. Might be useful while idling...
