oil control ring spring question...

I know when new they are coloured to ensure you put them facing the correct way - either to the front of the block or the back.

Now if I'm re-using old ones, how would I know I've got the facing the correct way? I laid them out when I took them out of the rotors, but I can't be sure if the wife has moved them or not!!! LOL

Excuse my crude drawing here...

The tab that goes into the rotor, should that always be pushed, or pulled? (if that makes sense).

So if the rotor goes clockwise and this is the front face of the first rotor... is this how it should sit? Or the opposite way around?

in the above pic, things would obviously move clockwise as that would be the front face of the first front rotor.

Well I can't get them anytime soon as people are out of stock!

Surely there's a tolerance for the oil control rings height or something, so you know they are ok?

Also, one Rx7 specialist here in the UK said should be fine to re-use??

It's clearly illustrated in the shop manual. One tab is round, one is square. Which one goes where depends on if it's the front or rear side of the rotor.

Super easy.

Read through the shop manual and you'll be fine.

Download the FSM. Don't tell us you're building this engine without a shop manual as a guide...

Why do you say that? The FSM has specs to test them against.

The easy way to remember which way they install is to think of the round end as an arrow. It always points at the rotor and opposite of rotation.

After I decide which will be the front and rear rotor I draw an arrow on each face for the direction it will rotate, that way I only have to think about it once.

Hope this helps,
Dan
