Jeff48 or another lawyer( i am talking my GF into filing a case) Should write Mazda a nasty letter. If i recall correctly they( Mazda) has an obligation to continue to manufacter parts for ALL vehicles sold in the USDM market for at least 10-15 years POST- Production of the model in question. That would make them "just eligable" for the 93' model years. But as we all know they were made until 95 in the USDM market.( and later in JDM and other markets around the world)

Also there is a law that any vehicle sold in the USA should have a "life" expectancy of 13 years BUILT into the vehicle. ( seems to me they failed THAT test miserably)

My personal feeling is that they are a prime suspect for a class action law suit. Ther are PLENTY of FD's out there waiting for engines. Not to mention that they are STILL producing the rotary engine's for the 8 and other Japanese models.

I feel for Ray and all the other big suppliers of the engines. Ray has at least 40k in inventory that he CANNOT send to his customers.!! So just think about how bad HE is stressing about this.

The link attached above for Mazda does not work for me. I will however fire off my own email. And try to get my GF to send off a nasty lawyer letter to Mazda. ( If we get some spare time, we're both friggin slammed) Someone else PM Jeff48 and talk to him about it. I will try myself to contact him on this matter as well.

Figures that this would happen just when I finally picked up my 7. Guess I had better really enjoy it now!

I think everyone should relax. I think Mazda has been good to us. I think the reman motors are priced affordably and the Mazda Competition programs are amazing.

I wonder how Toyota compares in regards to support.

While I agree and most of my posts are just me venting. I disagree that Mazda is being good to us. The response they gave to the earlier email was quite rude and to the point. Basically saying, F&*K off and buy a junk yard motor. That's just bad business.

And as far as getting extra housings....GOOD LUCK, That is also a big item on BO for the FD. Since the precious new 8 is in need of more engine parts to be produced. But it is a good idea for the future once everything comes available again.( I have faith it will but it will just take a while.)

And AnthonyNYC -- It has been 2 years since I drove my FD and then when i order my engine they go on a nationwide BO.,... I think i am allowed to be upset at Mazda. And if you missed the big smiley face in the post then you missed the humor in which it was writen.

I am just suprised that Mazda would treat the rotary community badly, Especially since the rotary is what almost killed them the first time around. Maybe we should be writing Ford Motor Co. instead,.. Go to the top source rite

I have actually looked into this as a matter of fact. It is just the lack of $$ on my end( initial capital) that is keeping me from doing this. My GF and I were just discussing this last night. My other question was if they( JDM, and other markets around the world) are having the same shortage problem. I would expect that they would not be do to the fact that the FD was produced till what just a couple years ago yes?( 02)

Maybe I'll speak with Jason at JT and see what the situation is in Japan rite now. I'll get back with any good info. Till then I have faith in Ray and others to Create a big enough stink to get Mazda on the ball again.

Consider these numbers. Total 3rd Gens brought to the States: 13,879. Based on what I have seen, assume that 5-10% have been wrecked -- this is a swag at best. That would leave somewhere between 12,491 and 13,185 still on the road. Someone earlier came up with at least 100 people waiting on a reman. That means that with only 25 to 32 more people (39 if none were wrecked), 1% of all FD owners would be actively pursuing obtaining a replacement engine. How many other groups of car owners out there do you think are in the same shape?

I didn’t worry too much, thinking that it was just a matter of time until they started filling orders, but I wanted a better idea how long the wait would be. I also figured it wouldn’t hurt to have another voice heard that there are people waiting. It was after reading their reply that I started to worry. To me, it sounds like they are saying don’t count on us, and this is too early in the life of these cars to have to start worrying about if you are going to be able to find parts.

Assuming this is just a temporary problem and they replenish the stock of remans. How long will it be before we go through this again, and how long will it last that time? Again, I wouldn’t have worried so much if they hadn’t come back telling me to go look somewhere else.

I'd say maybe half of those 13,879 are still left.
