Official: "Waiting on a REMAN" Thread
I was told that they are moving the "rebuild" facility from Florida to another location; can't remember where though.
So, they have been clearing inventory and not stockpiling rebuilds. The parts (rotor housings) are on backorder because of manufacturing of RX8 housings. I don't think they will completely scrap the reman program, it will just not be a high priority right now.

So since cores are needed, they are going to need to make some housings and other items then,
and with so many on backorder, I dont expect to see a Reman show up for 2months if thats the case.

Jesus, with this kind of deman its hard to believe some machine shop doesnt step up to the plate and make the parts here in the us. The cuts are simple, not sure about the babbit but im sure it would be profitable to turnout housing from a mid sized shop. Cant be that hard with the right equipment.
so, i should rebuild my engine BEFORE it goes pop then right
augh. doesn't really effect me yet but still, this is all very disturbing. i can't believe there isn't a shop out there that is willing to make some cash off of us though. maybe its time for me to start looking into some new business ventures... does anyone ANYWHERE have a set of tech drawings for the engine components that would have to be machined/cast?

Don't you need a license from mazda?
I have 2 of Malloy's 30 that are on BO. Haven't heard back from Ray yet but so far I am 1 1/2 months deep into the waiting process. ( But what's a few more months after 2 years rite?)
This sucks donkey *****!

You could slightly alter the design and sell the housing as a completly new product, rather than a copy of mazdas. Hell, they could be available in three options, street port, large street port, full bridge??
I too had been waiting for a reman for about a month and a half. At first I called Ray like everyone recommends; which, he is a very knowledgeable person, but he had that 30 on order thing, so I decided to go around to the local dealer on Capital Exp. They knew nothing and said they could have it in 10 days, BS. I then went to the dealer by my house in Fremont and asked them about the situation, they said they had no ETA BUT they got one transfered from one location where someone had bailed out on the engine, 1 and a half weeks later I recieved my reman today, and its beautiful. And I got it for around 1950 after tax. I suggest going to other dealers in your area and seeing if you can get lucky like that and tell them the price you can get it from ray, the cost on the engine is in the mid 1800's so you should have some leway in bargaining.

I spoke with Ray today (earlier) And he said that the main hold up is that there are No core parts to start building the remans with. That and as stated earlier the plant/shop is moving from Fla..( and had cleared out inventory) He had no concrete ETA but said that the August rumor is most likely false. But who knows.
And as far as asking local or other dealers, all the ones I call and tell them the price i get it from Ray for the just drop their heads in shame and say we can not even give our employees that cost!. So it is worth the wait i guess.
I am keeping my fingers crossed.

This is really bad news. Hopefuly Mazda can get this worked out so we can have a supply of motors again.
Does anyone know of a way to petition Mazda to get them to do so and soon?

Well I was #30 like almost 22 months ago.
I am currently #10 on wait list now.
Spoke with Ray @ Malloy, he stated :
" can't give any ETA on motor, due to back
order..." But I think he did bump me up on
the list(or flagged) because my car is DOWN and
already been waiting.
you would think the way these Engines blow.
That mazda realizes its a Cash COW and have
motors always available..

I contacted Mazda regarding the reman situation. The following is their response:
Thank you for contacting Mazda North American Operations. I appreciate the opportunity to respond to you.
We're sorry to read that you are having a difficult time locating parts or independent service for your RX-7. While we always hope for our customers to experience reliability and longevity and hope to provide support (parts and service) to promote that, there will be times when vehicles are discontinued.
With older, discontinued cars, you will find that parts, too, will eventually become discontinued or less available. This will naturally occur as the vehicle is no longer produced and parts are not as necessary for production. Marketability, demand and cost of continued production are all factors in when parts may become discontinued.
In such events that a part that you might require is no longer available, you should consider searching for it through parts recycling centers, for example. Independent, non-Mazda companies like
Mazdamart.com and Mazdarecycling.com are examples of companies that specialize in Mazda parts. Involvement with local or online RX-7 clubs also offer forums for helping to locate parts for these soon-to-be classics.
I’ll let you interpret this yourself. I talked to Ray at Malloy the other day and he agreed that Mazda needs to hear from as many as possible who are waiting for a reman. So, if you are waiting, take a minute and fire off a message to Mazda at http://www.mazdausa.com/MusaWeb/sendFeedback.action.
