ahhh nice. More research and digging needs to be done into color matching for interior colors it seems. Black, tan, and red. It would be nice to have a solid ASA filament in each color (a man can dream)

It 100% can be, the only issue you run into is 3d printing threads. While possible, they'll never be perfect and always turn out really rough. Plus it only costed me $126 to SLM print out of aluminum and tap the threads

 

They would be fine for the oil cap, I think. For the hose fittings, I suspect they would work as long as you use some teflon tape, or just glue them into place.

Time to invest in one of those color match scanners paint guys use and start testing filaments at the store

 

Who are you using to print the aluminum? Every quote I've gotten even for smaller parts have been insanely expensive.

 

I have a friend doing it. BUT go to a website called "Craftcloud", and see what those companies will charge.

Craftcloud is just a broker, so theyll give you a bunch of companies and prices to choose from once you upload your file and choose your process. It ends up being MUCH cheaper than the popular 3d printing/cnc companies.

 

Theres a company that makes color matched filament that I found last night. Its tempting as hell to find out a HEX code thats close to the interior plastic colors and get a spool to see how it turns out.

 

The oil cap DOES work, on my 3d printed test prints I printed the threads everytime and the cap worked great. Idk about the -10 ORB though...

Maybe ill design one that has a standard hose barb instead of an ORB thread for those that want a plastic one?

 

I'll do that. I price checked a lot of companies for some other parts not as complicated and similar size and the average price was $700+ unless I ordered 100+ units.

 

I think I checked with craftcloud for the filler neck before I sent it to my friend and I think they wanted $140 to do it? And that was their recommended option.

I would definitely recommend giving them a try to see what you get quoted

 

I've had very good luck with in3dtec for metal printing.

 

If you end up going that route, I'll chip in. Still need door vents and a bunch of the color matched push clips(still need to find/make a model for these).

 

I have NO idea how I would go about finding a color code for the plastics. Theres apperently a tool called a "spectrophotometer" that can measure light waves and find the color for you. But I dont have a couple hundred dollars burning a hole in my pocket for a tool im only gonna use once.

Long shot, but if anyone has one, or has access to one that we can send parts to, to find out the closest color code raise your hand

Had no luck getting what I was looking for. BUT did find the facebook account of a guy that used to print rx7 parts. He's no longer in business, but he did have a red that was very close to our interiors.

Just print some barbed fittings with the same thread and glue them in. It should be good enough.

 

i kniw but its too expensive and i will have to pay import fees and i already have a 3d printer...

 

I had reached out to him a couple of years ago after he "temporarily" closed, but that was for specific files. I can try and see if he'll tell me what brand/colors he used.
