I recently tried designing a 3D part in CAD thinking I could get it printed in aluminum for a reasonable amount, but it turns out it costs about 10 times more than I expected.
So I ordered a bunch of **** off Alibaba instead.
Curious where you got it quoted? I've found fairly drastic price differences between companies. The last part I had 3d printed in aluminum I got quotes from $1k to $150.

Curious what company you got the cheapest price from?

Some random Japanese 3D printing company. I think this was actually on the cheaper side. But it was like $1,300 when I was willing to pay maybe $100.
The other company I tried to get a quote from said it was too big for their machine.
All it was is a bit of intercooler piping...
The material alone apparently costs about $190 per kg.

Ah, good to know. I didn't realize that. I wonder if it's due to the RHD center console being shorter.
Also, another idea of something to print. I've always wanted this in a different color and didn't think about printing being an option until now. Does anyone have this file?
Borrowed a buddy’s fuse box cover and decided to jump into cad design for the first time ever. Also first time 3D printing. Purchased a Centauri carbon and got to work. Here’s my first prototype.

Damn, I just looked and they're $100 more than when I bought them four years ago.
I'm guessing by your comment you're currently in Japan? lol
Yeah, that's not even counting tarrifs.
I'm never going to be able to afford a trailer for my car at this rate.
Wife would kill me if I bought one, anyway...
Finally got a good model finished for the entire driver-side door plastic that you can print! Make sure when you put it into your slicer you cut it with a dovetail. (I cut mine just under the mirror control switch)
(You can also see the revised map pocket lid in the pics )

Does anyone have 3d scans / models of the pedals themselves? I just watched this video on DIY forged carbon parts and I sort of want to try replacing non-structural metal parts with carbon fiber.
I figure if I get a model, I can create a mold from that, send it to a 3d printing company to print for me (if it's relatively large), and then try making it myself out of carbon fiber. Seems fairly easy once the mold is created. Forged carbon fiber pedals would be a sick party trick (I'd have to put some anti-slip on them I guess)
