My hood venting project is just about complete and I'll post pics and results soon.
Amazing. I guess it adds some weight. But your project looks like it has more than enough power to compensate. Did you gut the interior and spray it on all surfaces?

Thanks oh I just reread your post and noticed it said you have your whole car done. Sounds nice? to keep on topic here, can you pm me more info and your experiance and thoughts on this. thanks
I did an entire write up of the project awhile ago:

https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...ght=quiet+coat

Weight is about 40lbs. (much less than the mats) and I achieved a 13 dba reduction which I understand is huge. Here is a graph of the results:

No, but this would be the best way to go. I did the door panels and the inside of the trunk. For the body, I sprayed it on the underside of the car. This is okay but you wont get as much bang for the buck this way. The results were still pretty good though.

I like the way the cut hoods look. I've always hated the look of vented hoods and was grappling with form vs functionality for a while, but this seems to be a good solution for those of us who don't want some gaudy hood, but want something to help vent the heat.

My only question is, what happens if you leave your car out in the raid with big *** holes in the hood?

Hood Update

The project is now complete and I'm very happy with the way things look. Here are several pics of the completed hood and the new vents:

The mesh material is aluminum and powder coated flat black to give it an OEM feel. You've also asked what the underside of the hood looks like. I've kept the insulation material and Asian Motorsports (body shop/painters working with Gotham Racing) inset the mesh under the insulation and cut holes for the vents:

So, I'm pretty happy with the way things now look. Hopefully it will help with heating issues but it still retains a stock look. How will it handle rain? I really can't answer this. Some one mentioned rain guards for vents but I know little about this. Maybe someone can detail what this is.

I made that hood myself... it was pretty easy. you make the templates that you want and where you want the holes, you mark it and cut it with the little dremel tool.

Since it's the aluminum hood it will not rust or anything... after that... i just put the little mesh grils under and there you go.

It helped a lot with underhood temps. With the big single i have, you can see the waves of heat coming out and that's better then it being stuck under the hood...

you can see more pics in the for sale thread on the 3rd page...

If you are concerned about rain/washing/etc...

Why not install a peice of channeled aluminim or painted plastic under the vent and then run a drain hose to the bottom of the car.

Doing that will still allow the heat to rise out of the hood, but most of the water that comes in will fall into the channel and down the drain to the street.

Another benefit is that your engine/parts are not open to view by anyone who wanders by and wants to lean on your nicely painted hood to see what all the goodies are under your hood.

^Don't really know what they'd charge you for the above. My guess would be $750-$1,000.

As for the mesh insert I used, it's from McMaster-Carr (www.mcmaster.com). I ordered part #9232T191 but they have many different types and styles to select from. It cost a little over $50 for a sheet.

That is such a non-answer. I'm not concerned about rain/washing, I want to know if I should be concerned.

His looks similar to the Bomex hood. I actually think his looks better though.

Very nice David Hayes. If you could comment on your underhood temps, that would be very helpful.

Thanks. I'll be able to comment on the temps as soon as I get the car back from Gotham Racing. Should be this week.
