OEM vented hood
I took my hood insulation off the car but have since put it back on. Didn't notice any change in the sound level of the car but I do have the underside of my hood (and rest of car) "painted" in Quiet Car sound dampening material (http://www.quietcar.net/). When the insulation was off, the hood was hotter but not crazy hot.
My hood venting project is just about complete and I'll post pics and results soon.

hey david, so how heavy is the quietcar spray? I was just wondering if it would weigh less with the coating then say insulation such as b-quiet or dynomat. What I was thinking is spraying it on under the door panels and the floorboards of the car. It might be a nice alternative to the heavy weight insulation mats. Thanks
oh I just reread your post and noticed it said you have your whole car done. Sounds nice? to keep on topic here, can you pm me more info and your experiance and thoughts on this. thanks

Weight is about 40lbs. (much less than the mats) and I achieved a 13 dba reduction which I understand is huge. Here is a graph of the results:
No, but this would be the best way to go. I did the door panels and the inside of the trunk. For the body, I sprayed it on the underside of the car. This is okay but you wont get as much bang for the buck this way. The results were still pretty good though.
My only question is, what happens if you leave your car out in the raid with big *** holes in the hood?
Hood Update
The project is now complete and I'm very happy with the way things look. Here are several pics of the completed hood and the new vents:

The mesh material is aluminum and powder coated flat black to give it an OEM feel. You've also asked what the underside of the hood looks like. I've kept the insulation material and Asian Motorsports (body shop/painters working with Gotham Racing) inset the mesh under the insulation and cut holes for the vents:

So, I'm pretty happy with the way things now look. Hopefully it will help with heating issues but it still retains a stock look. How will it handle rain? I really can't answer this. Some one mentioned rain guards for vents but I know little about this. Maybe someone can detail what this is.

I made that hood myself... it was pretty easy. you make the templates that you want and where you want the holes, you mark it and cut it with the little dremel tool.
Since it's the aluminum hood it will not rust or anything... after that... i just put the little mesh grils under and there you go.
It helped a lot with underhood temps. With the big single i have, you can see the waves of heat coming out and that's better then it being stuck under the hood...
you can see more pics in the for sale thread on the 3rd page...

Why not install a peice of channeled aluminim or painted plastic under the vent and then run a drain hose to the bottom of the car.
Doing that will still allow the heat to rise out of the hood, but most of the water that comes in will fall into the channel and down the drain to the street.
Another benefit is that your engine/parts are not open to view by anyone who wanders by and wants to lean on your nicely painted hood to see what all the goodies are under your hood.
WOW love this!! how much do you think a body shop will charge for this mod?
David, your's is also great! Very OEM like. Where can I buy those mesh inserts?

^Don't really know what they'd charge you for the above. My guess would be $750-$1,000.
As for the mesh insert I used, it's from McMaster-Carr (www.mcmaster.com). I ordered part #9232T191 but they have many different types and styles to select from. It cost a little over $50 for a sheet.

One pic at the track
speed RII, why are the bezels around your gauges painted black?
That is such a non-answer. I'm not concerned about rain/washing, I want to know if I should be concerned.

Pretty happy with it. I can see heat waves flowing out of it @ red lights.
Temps @ 86 in Cali summer heat.
Also had it over 140mph with no problems.
Good liuck with your mods.
