So I'm going to set it up with an aftermarket adjustable thermostatic control that runs them both at full speed. Just wondering if anyone runs them this way and what their thoughts are. Sometimes I think these Mazda guys like to torture themselves (and us!)

OEM= Original Equipment Manufacturer

OEM is what Mazda puts on the car when they build it.

no need to add anything elaborate, do the fan mod. Search for "fan mod" for the specifics and how to's. You run a jumper wire in the fan relay block.

But i think the miata switch is better....it makes the fans turn on at a lower temp. replace the stock switch with one from a miata. easy change

fans

they could have done it with 1 relay and a thermoswitch and 2 single speed fans. they have 2 fans with 2 speeds each, 4 relays, a thermoswitch, ac interface, electrical load unit, etc .

BTW I already have the fan mod, but I don't think having the fans come on automatically at 185 f is too much to ask...

I'm not sure if this is the solution you're looking for, but this is what I do:

I have my a/c removed, and never used it when I had it still in the car. I kept the a/c relay pulled, and simply hit the a/c button and turned the interior vent fans on to bring the underhood fans on. Coolant temps go down right away.

The thermostat doesn't even open until 180 degrees, no need to run the fans at that temp.

Install the Miata thermoswitch and you don't need to add extra switches, wiring or remember to flip a switch on or off. Simple and painless.
