Question OEM Alarm not working

My alarm isn't working. When I shut the car off and lock the doors the alarm light goes on and the beep sounds, but it never arms. The light stays on steady, doesn't blink like it's supposed to, and if I test it by opening the door from the inside the alarm doesn't go off. Any ideas? My alarm is modded to work with the turbo timer and it's worked fine till now. The only thing I've done recently is install my FMIC.

This is just a guess, but perhaps a door switch is bad. Does the interior light come on when you open the doors? I am not even really sure if the alarm uses the same door switches as the light, but it is an easy thing to test.

My guess would be the hood swiitch which is near the place you would have installed the FMIC. This along with the door and hatch switches have to be closed before the system will arm.

I didn't notice any switch for the hood when I was doing the FMIC install. Is it integral to the hood latch? I'll look around in there and see what I can find. My door switches and hatch switches are working properly. Thanks to both of you for the replies.

The hood switch is built into the hood latch.
The Door lock cylinders have Switches stacked on them that turn with the cylinder. they can come loose and prevent the alarm from knowing the door is locked - My Passenger door switch came loose and caused the same symptoms - I now have an extra alarm unit as the incorrect inital diagnosis was that the alarm cpu was bad.

Check the wiring around the hood latch mechanism and follow it as far as you can see, if you find a connector open it and check the switch with an ohm meter, but you have to trick it by closing the hood or pushing something in the latch to trigger.

Just wanted to bring this thread back to thank those that gave me advice. I spent a lot of time troubleshooting the hood latch assuming that was the problem since I had just been in that area with the FMIC install. But it ended up being the driver side door lock. The little electical connection on the back of the lock cylinder had fallen off. Everything is working perfectly now, thanks again!

Glad to hear you found the problem, "Murphy's Law" says the cause of the problem won't be where you were just working! At least that's a new law I guess.

Just curious how you modded your stock alarm to work with a turbo timer. I just installed my Greddy timer and would like to be able to leave it running but armed as well..

The first 2 paragraphs on this page explain how to get the stock alarm to work with a TT - http://www.rx7turboturbo.com/robrobi...turbotimer.htm
